As far as a passport, you need either that (preferrably) or an EDL (enhanced drivers license) if your State has them; NY does and that's perfectly acceptable. You do have two months- plenty of time to get a passport and then you're good for anywhere in the world for 10 years (maybe 15- I don't quite recall).

All US Passports issued to anyone over the age of 16 are Valid for 10 Years from the date of issue.
