I have heard the same.... no more sniffer.

I recently had to smog a 2002 Corolla. The f'n OBD codes were cleared after various repairs (new battery, new catalytic converter), but the car must be driven a certain distance, and/ or certain drive conditions must be met before the smog reader will accept the codes as COMPLETELY cleared. I ended up driving around pointlessly for over 600 miles --- after repair, and check engine lights were off--- just to get the codes to be accepted.

I have a hard time believing that my 600 miles of pointless driving around will result in a net reduction of emissions into the atmosphere. But, hey, California.
