We have a four year old and a two month old. the four year old is in a booster, and fits fine. the two month old rides in a graco car seat with base, so the base is always in the car but the seat we can just grab and go. it takes some maneuvering, but it can be done.
whoever's riding shotgun (usually will be my wife) better have skinny legs though!
It works, but it's a tight fit.
