The old style TVS does not whine either, you would need to add the rear cog drive belt and pulleys to get the whine. The new design boasts better efficiency from the S/C than the previous design. The older version is well built and sound without any serious issues that I'm aware of, the same can be said for the new version. Slightly better efficiency and looks are the differences between the two.
