If the manual transmission is similar to the Z06, there is what feels like a second detent when it goes all the way into first. The rubber damper in the shifter can make it even harder to feel when it is in gear.
I had mine pop out once, and I made sure that never happened again.
The short throw shifters can make the shifting effort higher, but they do provide a more crisp feel of when the transmission is in gear.
Installed a Hurst shifter and never had a problem again.
