In 1997 I bought a new Camaro SS, after 2500 miles it developed a rear main leak, I refused to let the dealer remove the engine to replace the seal because we all know the car would have never been the same, I went round and round with GM and they finally sent me $2,500 and told me to trade it on a new SS, I did. After about 3,000 miles on the 2nd one it did the same thing. I immediately took the 2nd SS and traded it for a Cobra Mustang. Problem solved. I did find out afterwards that GM was having problems with whatever they use as glue or whatever when they were installing the rear main seals in these SS's and it was a problem on thousands of camaro SS's, I havent owned a Chevy since until I bought this 2012 SS, only 700 miles, no leaks (knock on wood) but if it develops the same problem I will give this car back to GM and demand a refund.!!!!!!!!! And if your rear main is leaking you should to.
