The L99 is basically an LS3 with AFM and VVT. The VVT is really used to make engines more efficient not for more power. Because the L99 only has 1 Cam it can only change valve timing on exhaust and intake ports at the same time. If we had 4 overhead cams they could phase the exhaust and intake separately and we may see bigger differences, but then we wouldn't be dealing with an LS series engine.
