As someone who has done a lot of messing around with the ambient lighting, I can probably help.

First off, check this thread as it has the official GM instructions

Now I found that it was easy to get the trim pieces off, if you know the trick.

The trick is to pull the side panels off, and squeeze the clip from the back then pull the trim out. Once you get the one large one out the rest simply snap off.

Getting the door cards off is a little trickier. I never bothered unhooking everything when I went in there, as I was just trying to change my ambient light coloring to red.
