A note about trim levels
I don't know if this is bothering anyone else, but it is rubbing me wrong. "RS" is not synonymous with V6. There are two V6 trims: LS and LT. As of now there is one V8 trim: SS (divided into 1SS and 2SS, along with 1LT and 2LT). RS is an OPTION PACKAGE. It is not a trim level. It is an option on both V6 and V8 models. For example, I have a Cobalt LS that includes the ABS and TC combination. My car is called the Cobalt LS, not Cobalt ABS/TC. This may seem petty, but I felt it needed to be clarified. There is no RS bumper. There is only the V6 and SS bumpers, and possibly the TF2 Bumblebee bumper on a future Z28.

RS goes back to 67, it only became synonymous with the V6 in the 4th gen.
In 1967 the RS (Rally Sport) package was basically a cosmetic upgrade. The headlights were hidden, the taillights received minor alterations, and the exterior rocker trim was revised. RS badging could be seen throughout the vehicle. The RS and SS packages could be ordered together, creating the RS/SS Camaro. The combination included both the aesthetics of the RS and the performance of the SS.

Exactly what I'm saying. I could see if throughout Camaro history the V6 trims had been called "RS", but that was only briefly the case. Given how closely the 5th gen RS package mirrors the 1st gen package it seems clear that it is an appearance option kit, not a trim.

this is a generalized outlook i know, but you dont see too many numbers matching V-8 RS' out there. one thing to keep in mind also, some people refer to any major option upgrade as a trim level upgrade.

That, and it doesn't help Road & Track magazine screwed up and said the same thing about a V6 RS model, and the V8 SS model. And nothing about LS or LT models... Ugh, idiots are everywhere!

The rags' will never get it right. I'm waiting for good magazines like GMHTP, CHP, HR, or PHR to get their hands on V6 and V8 models. I want to see some real performance numbers.

Real solid statistics, not like (i think it was R&T) that did a totally Computer Generated test about a year ago, involving the Camaro and Mustang. With what parts they figured would be in it. Real useful information there...

Actually, the third generation RS models started in 1987 offered only in California, had a V6. Then in 1988, the V6 RS was made in Cali, Texas and Florida. In 89+ third gens offered a V8 and a V6 RS models.

It was, and let the record show that the Camaro dominated in EVERY category. Even a ZL1 they thought up to compete with the GT500.
