Supercharged Camaro SS 1LE, what diff?

Originally I planned on buying a 6th Gen Camaro but a good friend of mine sold me his cammed 2014 Camaro SS 1LE with a Magnuson Heartbeat supercharger. She's putting down 652RWHP and 535 RWTQ. I've owned this car for about 6 months now and feel the 3.91 gears may be a bit too aggressive for Daily Driving. I was thinking about swapping to the 3.45 or 3.27 diff from the SS. I'd love to do the rear end from the ZL1, but that would be out of my budget. Do you guys have any thoughts?

Complete Mod List:
Magnuson Heartbeat w/ 87mm Pulley
Cam - 600I, 600E, 216I, 246E, 114.5+0
MPSS Tires 285/30 Front & 295/30 Rear
Double Beehive Springs
ARH 1 7/8 LT Headers
Rotofab CAI
Ported Throttle Body
Apex Cold Air*Scoop
Mighty Mouse Catch Can
ZL1 FPCM
ZR1 3 Bar Map Sensor
Injector Dynamics ID850's
174 Deg Thermostat
Melling Oil Pump
NGK TR7IX Sparkplugs
Vibrant Resonators
Magnaflow X-pipe
Dyno Tune by Late Model Racecraft

The 3.91s were way too low for me at your HP. I switched to the ZL1 3.73s, better, but still too low. The ZL1 3.23s are serving me well, but I don't DD my car. I would probably go with the 3.45s for DD. BTW, you made the right choice

What makes you think they are too aggressive?

Thanks 1911 1LE! I'm really happy with my choice.

acammer, Basically, I'm having trouble getting traction at low speeds. Which is where I do 80% of my driving. If I get on it at all I'll break loose. Especially on the blacktop. I'm not really wanting to run Drag Radials. In hindsight, I probably shouldn't DD a 652rwhp track car. But heck, why not.

On a side note, I'm getting Ads on my screen for Greenworks lawn equipment and their green is very close to yours.

Well, I talked to my tuner (Late Model Racecraft) about changing the rear diff. He suggested not changing the rear end and instead I try running the Toyo R88Rs. I guess I'm leaning that way. I wouldn't have to do any of the labor or worry about recalibrating the Speedo.

What tire do you have now? Let us know how the Toyo's do. I've been thinking about switching to them for a street tire when the Nitto's are done.

I'm currently running Michelin Pilot Super Sports, 285/35/20 Front and 295/35/20 Rear

For the Toyos, I think I'm going to do 305/35/20s in the rear. But I won't be buying new tires till about March - April.

A PD blower is always going to be hard on tires at low speeds - that instant torque is just too much for most street tires. You could put lower gears in the car, but first gear is going to be exciting no matter what you do. The 888R is a really nice compromise tire that will give you near Drag Radial straight line traction, but still corner excellent. I've always found the pilots to be very temperature dependent - and once they get a few years on them they get hard and slick.

You have to remember, the 1LE has different trans ratios than a regular SS car - you're 1st, 2nd and 3rd are already longer (less gear ratio) than a regular SS. I can't imagine taking even more gear away from the car. Let's say you went to a 3.45 rear - the car would go over 90mph in second gear, 125 in third.

I think once you get a different tire on the car you'll be pretty happy with how it is. If you decide you really need less gear, there will be a line of guys with 3.45 stock diffs all to happy to swap with you.

I got a good laugh at that one!
