Do i need to add friction modifier?
Hey guys,
Just have a quick question that i need answered by tomorrow, cause going to change out the fluid. I just bought the Amsoil diff fluid (75w90) and was wondering if i still have to add the friction modifier? It doesn't say on the bottle. Its not a big deal to buy some from chevy, so i was just wondering. Also, if i did put the 2.6oz of friction modifier with the amsoil, will it hurt anything? If I remember correctly in reading you dont need to add the FM to amsoil or RP.

After doing further research for my own fluid change, I can tell you without a doubt if you are using RP, Amsoil, or Redline you do NOT need the modifier.

Taken from the Amsoil website: And as all Camaros have a LSD.....
AMSOIL SEVERE GEAR® (75W-90) provides superior performance and replaces competitors’ 75W-90 and 80W-90 gear oils. It delivers the best fuel efficiency and cold temperature performance of the SEVERE GEAR oils. AMSOIL SEVERE GEAR® is compatible with conventional and synthetic gear oils. Mixing AMSOIL gear oils with other oils, however, will shorten the oil life expectancy and reduce the performance benefits. AMSOIL does not support extended drain intervals where oils have been mixed. Aftermarket oil additives, other than those specified by AMSOIL, are not recommended for use with AMSOIL gear oils. AMSOIL SEVERE GEAR® is compatible with most limited slip differentials. If limited slip differential chatter occurs, add AMSOIL Slip-Lock™ friction modifier additive. So I guess it doesn't need it unless you get chatter, on the flip side --- it doesn't appear to have a warning not to......Another thread here added the modifier. Im changing mine with Amsoil and will add the modifier |
