Longevity of the SS Badge / Trim
The Camaro, Chevelle, and Impalas (60's and 70's) gave a lot of honor to the Super Sport name. This all started with the '61 Impala 409.
I can not think of any other trim name used (multiple decades) by other car manufactures that has been used across multiple models other than Chryslers RT and SRT over the last 50 years. Two questions: A) Any other well know trim names used by other manufactures across multiple models for multiple decades? B) Any years that there wasn't a SS model of any sort? I know the Monte Carlo helped out for some those lean uneventful years. |

B) I believe from 74 to 83 there were no SS models

Correct. Also from 2002-2010 no new SS's were being produced.

A.) Well, from GM alone, you also forget the Z-series of cars....such as the Z-22, Z-24, Z-26, Z-28, and of course the ZL1. You could include the Z01-Z07 as well.
Ford had the SVT line from 1993 until 2004 (they had a few vehicles since that SVT was responsible for creating). Honda has had the Si series from the mid 80's to current, with a brief couple years in between where it wasn't available.. B) The Camaro SS was built every year from the year it started in 67 until 2002, so no, there was never a year there wasn't at least one SS model. From 2000 until 2007, the Monte Carlo SS was in production, and you had several models of SS's from 2007 to current.

Incorrect.
Monte Carlo SS was produced from 2000 until 2007....and the Impala, HHR, Cobalt all received SS badging... ***EDIT*** I am stating that this is incorrect only if you are referring to the SS option being offered, not the Camaro SS.

The bad thing about the SS name plate is that in the 90’s and 2xxx era they used SS on almost anything they could get their hands on hell just slap an SS on anything and jack the price up $3k
-Silverado SS -Tahoe SS -Suburban SS (concept) -HHR SS -Cobalt SS -Impala SS -Monte Carlo SS -Camaro SS -Malibu SS -Malibu Maxx SS -S10 SS Coming soon (you never Know) -Cruise SS -Sonic SS

Ford has been using cobra for a long time. I know it didn't stem across models like the SS did, but If you ask me that was one of GM's flaws. They overused it to the point that it really doesn't mean much anymore.

I'm trying to think where there were gaps in 'SS' history.
Is 1989 a no-SS year? There was no Monte in 1989 ...and the 454-powered C1500 'SS' I believe was new for the 1990 model year. |

GTO
'62-'64 250 GTO '84-'86 288 GTO '11 599 GTO obviously I'm not talking about a Pontiac.... edit...sorry...was not used across multiple models...just saw that... the obvious answer to this is the ///M moniker, goes back to the original M1...

It also depends on what you consider 'multiple decades.'
Ford has used the 'Eddie Bauer' trim on Bronco II, Bronco, Expedition, Explorer, Excursion, and even Escapes, I think. The first model with the 'Eddie Bauer' trim package was released in 1984. |
