Convertible hard top
I just got to thinking why is it that GM has not made a hard top camaro ? I know the cost would probably go up alot but hard tops look a ton better than the ugly soft tops. I would never get a soft top for the main reason of how it looks out of place. It would probably be lighter too in the weight department if made with the right kind of material. If gm ever made hardtop camaro i would save my money and buy one in a heartbeat lol

Cost, weight, and the extra roof panels it would have required to cram it in the trunk have all been sited as reasons why they didn't go that route. Maybe for the 6th gen but don't hold your breath.

I must be in the minority. I like the soft top much much better than the hardtop. I want my convertible to look like a convertible..

I've owned a few soft tops in my life and then a hard top MB SLK. The hard top was great - zero wind noise & no leaks. However I've heard of expensive repair bills when they stop working. Some of the repairs are not easy DYI's.

I love hardtop verts but putting one on a car that already weighs a moon and a half, plus be a sports car is not something I would want. I am not a fan of soft top verts either just because of the look when its up so basically I'm SOL and why I have a coupe

I would rather have a hard top than a soft top but i can see why they never made one on the 5th gen. Camaro due to weight alone. I had a convertable 89 GT Mustang and came out one morning to go to work and someone sliced up my top. Never cared for the wind noise on the highway either.
If i ever decide on a convetable again it will be a hard top. |

Personally I think the Chevy engineers did a decent job making the roof lines of the soft top match those of the coupe.
Like Ringo64 pointed out, the addition of a hard top would probably add additional weight to a car that already exceeds well over 4000 lbs. A good example is my son's 2008 BMW M3 convertible. It has a hard top that looks like a Transformer when it folds down. It's way cool. But the mechanism adds 600 more pounds to the weight of the car compared to the coupe. I believe the Chevy engineers made the the best trade-offs in terms of cost, functionality and most importantly weight using the current soft-top.

I'm just a ragtop guy, if the hard top was available I would pass. To me it would be like buying a Harley and bitching about the wind noise.
