Irritated and confused rant high flow cats

So I'm on my second muffler shop not wanting to install my solo high flow cats. Both shops are old timers who say the solo's wont do anything and that my factory cats flow just as well. considering stock have two cats per side that are oddly shaped compared to solos one cat design I would assume the solos flow better. Now I'm confused weather or not they will make a difference. Guess i wont get the instant gratification of a install while at work today and do them my self tomorrow and find out then.

They don't know what they're talking about - HF cats are well worth it and make a big difference (EDIT - big difference in terms of sound - some claim a performance benefit, but I haven't tested this).

Thread moved to exhaust forum.

Very little difference. You definitely won't notice it power wise.

They have no idea what they are talking about and honestly their opinion is irrelevant. You are paying them to do work not provide commentary. The stock cats are the single most restrictive part of the factory exhaust. There are hundreds of members on the forum that have done Solo cats and many have posted their dyno charts. Your car will make more power and sound better. PERIOD.

Thanks Chase. I know from what I read they are awesome. just disappointing to have two different shops tell you that you are a idiot for buying a product. one of the shops does a ton of performance work around here and is quite reputable. He made me actually second guess my self and my purchase. I will report my findings after install.

I ran the solos for a while. There's a big difference from the factory midpipes. It's a worthwhile upgrade. You will notice the power. The shop is not familiar with what you're doing obviously. Those are the best power bump you're gonna get until you do longtubes and a cam.

Don't go to a muffler shop. Go to a performance shop.

This.

If Solo cats are like the HFC's for LT's, they are half the cell count, which means less restriction. As for the gains, most say around 15-20whp untuned. I doubt that will make a HUGE difference, but it should be noticeable.

They are a great upgrade. Just like everything else on here...you should be taking the advice of guys that have them or experience with them. Peoples opinions are not what you need.

Shorty headers wont dont crap for performance, they are a waste of time and money. Go long tubes or save your money.

When they are bolted to a set of solos they are a good combo....not as much hp as long tubes ...but still make power.
