7-inch Tablet for my kid?

Hey all,

i picked her up a Google Nexus 7 for Christmas that was DAO in the box. Wouldn't power up, even after a charge. Number two last night after she waitind for two days did something similar. It also will not boot.

A Google of "Nexus 7 won't start" reveals a LOT of folks have this trouble since the products release and newer software versions seem to only have gotten worse.

The spec's on paper put this one way ahead of the others in it's class for the price. That doesn't help my daughter or me if it doesn't turn on.

Thoughts? Try one more? No way? Anyone have a good experience with one of these?

Kindle Fire HD? Samsung Galaxy 7? Something else? $200 is a fairly hard cap for us right now. Can't afford $329 for the iPad mini.

Any help and advice prior to tonights trip back to the store is greatly appreciated.

Wow that sucks. I bought 2 unlocked phones from them a few months ago & haven't had a lick of problems, but I guess each product has its own manufacturing process. For a tablet my wife & I use the iPad.

My dad just bought a Kindle Fire HD & I had a chance to play with it for a while the other day. Really nice. It's a lot lighter than I expected. It was easy to navigate & while the keyboard is smaller than the iPad it didn't take me long to start typing away. He bought the Amazon Prime & is having a blast watching movies & reading his books. For the price I think it's a great product (based on my limited time I spent with it).

Amazon Prime is free for the first 30 days then like $80 a year after. Basically Amazon's version of Netflix. Plus they allow you to check out books. However if this is for a child then it depends if you want them to have access to a lot of material that you may find objectionable.

I got my son a kindle fire. IMO, if its not a kindle or ipad... I wouldn't waste your money. I have never had an issue with my ipad and the one issue I had with his kindle was taken care of no questions asked!

I've got a Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 and it's more than plenty for a tablet. And it boots up the first time, too

Maybe give that a try? Does the Nexus you gave her have it's own data plan, or is it purely a wi-fi only device?

Wi-Fi only, which i prefer. No budget for constant data plan and I really don't want her taking places at 8 y/o.

Isn't that Galaxy more than the $200 when you look into the larger versions?

I have the Nexus 7 tablet and haven't had any problems with it. I love it. A buddy of mine has one as well and hasn't had any issues.
