Compatibility on ss & v6 air intake...

I have a 2014 camaro SS but my aftermarket intake won't pass smog. I didn't keep my stock one. Will a 2014 v6 camaro K&n intake fit on mine? It's the only cheap intake i can find online.

Negative. Besides possibly throwing your MAF and ECU off - setting off a CEL code, it will not fit the throttle body opening.

Why are you smoging after just appx 4 years old? Isn't only needed after 6 or 7 yrs?

Appreciate the quick response. Any ideas on where I can get a real cheap intake to pass smog? Can't find anything made for my year that's under a few hundred bucks

& it's every 2 years , for registration here in CA

I'm in Cali, it was 6yrs before the DMV asked me to smog.

As for your intake, if you do need to smog for whatever reason, you'll probably need OEM. Try Ebay maybe... I found a piece here;

Also - if you're an SS 1LE, you've got an LS3. You don't have to search 2014, try searching the older years, more comes up and should still fit your ride. The refresh didn't change the engine bay very much at all on an SS.

A lot of times people put a CAI on and sell their stocker. You should reach out and see if someone is selling it and just throw it on for smog.

Throw a feeler out into the WTB section.

The initial smog check for a vehicle is required 6 years after newly manufactured. Thereafter, it's 2 year intervals.

You can modify your engine/exhaust with CARB approved (so marked) parts only. I believe there are aftermarket California Air Resources Board (CARB) approved intakes. Probably the cheapest route is to go to the junkyard.

Make sure you have the stock catalytic converters in the stock locations before you attempt to smog check it. No aftermarket cats are CARB approved for our cars, that I'm aware of. Long tube headers won't pass, since they require relocation of the cats. CA is not mod friendly, but their are some basic parts that are approved, and also some of the Edelbrock E-Force series of superchargers are CARB approved.

I have the OEM from my 2010 SS you can have for $50 plus ship, which will probably be around $20-30 UPS ground. Coming from NY so might take up to week to get there. PM me if you want it.

Since you have to have a smog inspection every 2 years, I would just buy a used/new OEM one and keep it on hand for future inspections.

See, that's what I don't get... his car is a 2014. Wouldn't he have to smog in 2020? Did things change in the last few years? Yeah, freaking Cali... beautiful out here, but man its 'government' tho... smh
