Rev Limiter
Does anyone know if the 6.2 engine cuts out when a certain RPM is exceeded?

I know if you are in P or N and try to rev it up it won't go past 4,000 when driving I've got mine to red line but only a couple of times when I'm on it really hard.

Thanks. I have a standard and I missed a shift in 1st..Way into redline and it just cut out until I backed off and shifted into 2nd. I was wondering if this is a built in protective feature.
PS. Love your ragtop |

And to the OP, there is nothing to keep you from bouncing it off the rev limiter all day if you wanted, except the engine blowing up maybe lol. But it shouldn't have stopped accelerating unless you let off of the pedal. I think what you felt is the car hitting the rev limiter. It makes a bit of a lurch when it does. |

Yea the rev limiter is defnitely higher than redline. Hit mine for the first time the other day accidentally and was caught off guard when it felt like the entire car shutdown. Really, it must have just over-rode the throttle position or something

Hey thanks everyone for the replies. I was a bit concerned that I had damaged the engine or something. I guess if you don't make a habit of itm it shouldn't do any harm..

No damage that's what it's there for I must admit I have hit mine a couple of times loud exhaust + loud car next to you = limiter creeping up quickly! (this was done in Mexico of course).... Sometimes I wish these engines ran up to 8k like my buddies E92 m3!

Yep, I think it is a built-in safety feature, was entering onto interstate and had to punch it to get into a lane....was in third and redlined it out...all of a sudden there was a moment of silence and that sudden pause of accelleration. Put her in 4th and made my lane and all was good after that.

On my V6 hitting the redline is like hitting the brakes. Not a good thing, but no damage, just embarrassing.

The L99 has one too.....had it in manual mode and revved too high, it cuts out, just like my bike....lol
Ask me how I know... |

What does this whole process feel like? I was in 5th, going 48 I think, threw it into second, should have thrown it into third. So When I threw it into second there was this enormous surge of power, then an immediate feeling like someone put on the breaks. The tach dropped a lot, then went back up, I went to third. Does this experience reflect Stabilitrak and TC keeping me "safe"? Or from hurting the car?
