Our SS vs the general public
I am surprised at the normal cars that challenge my Camaro on the street or sometimes the track. I don't race in the streets, but I'm fortunate enough to live close to a nice track where I can get my need for speed out.
I've had people with 5th gen V6 Camaros tell me that they honestly believe they are going to give me a great race. A Prius yesterday was rocketing through the streets after looking over at me at a red light because he felt like he could. Most people don't realize how fast a car or truck is if they have never been in a really fast car. In my opinion, this new Camaro of mine is fast, but not to my tuner who daily drives a 9 second Z06 manual. It is really fun to go to the track now and be one of the quickest street cars. With my fifth gen, we were in the middle of the pack or sometimes in the back as we struggled to run low 13's. The butt dyno tells people how ridiculously fast their 5.3 V8 truck is, or their M6 V6 Camaro. If they rode in my car and I launched it, they would still feel they had a chance because of how smooth the A8 delivers the power. But in reality, if we raced, it would look like they were still parked. One of the latest was a 5th gen A6 SS Camaro at the track. We were talking and he laughingly asked to run for pinks because he had his new DRs on. I was impressed and asked what he runs. He replied low 13's. I showed him my 11.91 timeslip from earlier in the night on my street tires and he backed off. He actually didn't know what engine was in my 6th gen. He was confused. How do you own and race a Camaro but know nothing of the latest version that had been out for a year and a half? My 15 M6 SS made my wife cry once when I launched it and grabbed 2nd hard. It ran 13.2 at 108. She doesn't even batt an eye if I launch our 16 and let it shift into 2nd. It runs 11.9's at 118 on stock tires with poor 60' times. Butt dynos: making 14 and 15 second cars and trucks feel fast forever.

I have a friend who has a stock Scion FR-S and he thinks it's fast and could beat a Camaro.

Sound makes some of them think they are fast too. A neighbor of mine just traded up from an early 5th gen Mustang V6 to a same year GT. It has a catback on it and really does sound good, but he runs around in low gear all the time which is annoying. Don't think he understands how slow it is really compared to mine (talking pre-Coyote GT). He's also never heard mine at WOT

Unless you have the NPP option. I have people say that they like my aftermarket exhaust sound and they "know" it isn't stock "wink wink!" Lol

And remember, no matter how good the new autos are, even a 136 crank HP turbo Sonic is faster because they have a stick shift.

To be fair, I think folks generally understand that our cars are not slow but, I don't think they understand the significant transition that happened with the 6th gen. I had a 2014 Camaro SS (LS3) with a cold air, 2" long tubes, no cats and a very aggressive 93 octane tune. I'm not entirely sure, if even given a head start, if that car could have held off my stock 2016 (A8). It was not slow by any means but, it can't turn, stop or accelerate as well as this car can in stock trim.
Even when reviewers do a piece on these cars, everyone seems so surprised. When I get into conversations with people about these cars, they're quick to bring up comparisons ranging from a BRZ all the way to Ferrari's and Lamborghini's. While I submit that our cars aren't exactly competition for exotics in all cases, I do submit that they will require that the vast majority of cars bring their "A" game in order to fend us off or even worse, avoid humiliation. For the money, these cars are an incredibly performance bargain that people just don't quite appreciate outside of our circle, just yet.

I had a family member with a 2011 Mazda 6 turbo and E85 tune call out my stock 13 ZL1. He was certain he was going to blow by me. We went to the strip and he ran 14.3 and, at 2 seconds faster, I had several bus lengths on him at the finish.
Another with a 2011 Grand Sport refuses to believe my A8 SS could beat a C6 Vette. (Camaro less than Vette). When I informed him that I have beaten C6 Vettes, the reply was "not mine". He never races it (street/strip or track) and primarily just rubs wax off it with a diaper.

Yeah you SS mofos are ridiculously fast but even with my V6 I'll be giving her not realizing how fast I'm going because it's built on the Fantastic Cadillac Alpha platform very smooth.

I walked my buddies new SRT8 Jeep 3 times in a row from a roll with my stock SS A8. He was shocked and depressed.
