Vibration between 50-60mph ????????

Hi everyone I don't post a lot but read everyone's post. I have an issue that I am hoping someone can help with. I have a 2010 SS with 84K on it. I get a steering wheel vibration when going anywhere from 50-60 mph. I had the tires balanced, alignment checked, new brakes installed and replaced all the wheel bearing as I track it every chance I get. I am at a loss to where the vibration is coming from. I have a buddy with the same vibration so hoping someone on here has had the same issue and what did they do to fix it. Thanks

It can be a lot of things but something that comes to mind is poor tread wear, can cause vibration and still balance fine.

Tires don't have very miles on them. Michelin Pilot Super Sports. I was in Iraq for a year but had the car sitting on roll around dollies in garage.

Hmmm. When you had them balanced did they use a road force balance? How many lbs was it? I have a feeling them sitting for a year with weight on them is the issue. A regular balance that isnt road force wouldn't be able to tell. You can try match mounting them with road force balancer to see if it helps.

If you were closer I'd let you try my stock tires and wheels, if you know someone that has wheels that will fit I'd try swapping them out will give you an answer quick without paying someone or throwing parts at it.

try roadforce balance, in my experience as a mechanic I have not found many people with the true knowledge of using a balancing machine. at least with roadforce there is a little more training. with that said, I had a similar problem. it was a slight bend in the wheel that a knowledgeable tech picked up on the machine. even though it balanced out it still had the problem. went to a wheel straightening guy and he solved my problem.

Ditto on the tires sitting on roller dollies for a year. The Michelins are soft and they might have been damaged sitting for so long with weight on them, that would be my first place to look. I do know when my car had them on and sat for a couple weeks, it would vibrate until the rode around a bit and warmed up to temp.

I had this problem, and it is common(ish). It an be a few things. But the solution for me and others was new front struts AND strut mounts. I replaced my front struts and still had the shake. 20k miles later I replaced the struts again, but with new mounts, and that shake went away. I my wheels had nothing to do with the issue because I swap my snow tires on every winter and the problem persisted with summer and winter wheels.

Good advice so far by the good folks at Camaro5.com...

Also check your bushings. I had a similar problem not so long ago and turned out to be my bushings.

The weird thing is that I have a BMR aftermarket bushing set and yet this happened.

Started out gradual... wheel shake above 50, disappearing around 60-65... then it just got worse where it almost became undriveable.

Here's a vid of the find by the shop that fixed it...

Get the car off the wheels and shake it baby... good luck!

Strut mounts is what solved it for me. I just replaced them last week. Luckily it was a fairly easy diagnosis as it was also making noise. The 2010 model year had a known issue with front strut mounts and that noise of something banging over light bumps. I believe there was a TSB on them. How I knew:
