Pedders EP1200 Sub Frame Insert Installation
Installed mine today. What a PITA. Heat is your friend getting those washers to pop off. That and a friend with strong arms and several pry bars. Once I got the fronts on, it was much easier to get the rears on with the tires off, but didn't have enough clearance to get the top rears on. A tug on the rear sub frame and it moved enough to put on, but then the bolt holes no longer lined up. That was a major PITA. Took a bunch of moving it around with a jack to finally get it lined up. Took me about 3 hours to do it, glad it is over.
And those bolts are a b*tch to remove to begin with!

Use two hammers to remove the OEM subframe bushings metal washers.
Actually, if you use two, regular, claw hammers, those subframe washers will pop right off. No need to heat cause you could damage the OEM rubber inserts, impact is a better friend. Besides, I don't have the proper torch.
The problem is that those subframe washers are slightly pressed into the aluminum inner sleeve which is surrounded by all that OEM rubber. When you try to only pry the washers off, you are only stretching the rubber and you won't get anywhere. My first washer took more than 40 minutes until I used the two hammer method. You still need a friend to pry down the rubber and take up the slack in the bushing. Then you can slip the claws of the first (pry) hammer under the washer and hold it firmly in place. Then use the second hammer to pound down on the head of the pry hammer. Three to four good whacks and those washers pop out without any sweat. My buddy and I couldn't stop shaking our heads at how easy they came off once you get the right technique and tools.

So can you just take an air hammer to the washers and pry also?

lol some say easy some say hard. Some say you can do it yourself and others say you need a hand. LOL It should be fun! I made a post about bmr instructions vs pedders instructions both seem to take a slightly different approach

My 2 rear washers popped right off with a screwdriver. The front 2 however were a PITA! I ended up using 2 large screwdrivers and just pryed like hell till they popped off with a fury!! Went flying accross the floor! I was ready to try some heat but decided to give it one more try! Glad I held off on the heat cause I was worried about ruining the OE rubber inside!

I'm doing mine on Tuesday.....hopefully they'll pop right off....I'm planing on using a blunt air chisel.

A softly rounded point chisel is my weapon of choice. Slide it in from the side and then like a pry bar lever the gun down and the point up. One or two short bursts have them popping off. Your not really 'chiseling' against anything. You are vibrating the plate loose. I'll shoot a video the next time I am under a 5th Gen using this technique.
