Question Supercharger Rattle

I noticed this weekend that when the car is idling and the hood is up, there is a light rattle coming from the area of the supercharger.

I did a quick search on the web and discovered that the CTS-V folks have been complaining of this for a while.

For all you ZL1 guys, do you also here this? Is this normal? (This is my first supercharged vehicle, so I don't know what to expect)

Should be no rattles in a supercharger. Can you hear it while driving?

When the hood is close and when driving, there is no noticeable rattle. Car sounds and operates great.

I just listened to Drake's video from this weekend, and you can here it too.

Listen around 00:12 - 00:15

Gm was suppose to fix that with a solid isolator. Apparently not, it's not as loud as the cts vs rattle but there's got louder over time. I would take it to a dealership and complain

Most superchargers have a mechanical noise from the internal rotors.....some louder than others.

My Magnuson 2300 has some minor internal noise at idle. but it is normal as I have heard many of the same model and they all sound the same. I imagine the Camaro Magnuson 1900 will have some minor blower noise at idle that could be thought of as a rattle I guess. Won't know for sure until I get mine or hear others up close.

Did you take the plastic cover off and try to isolate from internal blower sound to something near by?

You might be right. I understand the mechanical noises but it does sound like a rattle. I hate noises lol.

It's the stock isolator that makes the rattling sound. Check out this link, the ZR1 and CTS-V guys have been replacing them during pulley swaps and snout porting.

Thanks...This may just be the issue. I found a good video that shows the issue on the CTS-V. (Look at the 4:50 min mark)

This makes me wonder if we can expect to see premature wear on the components then?

It's probably the same part, I plan on changing mine out when I have the snout ported. I read about this in GM High Tech Performance Mag.

It's the spring loaded isolator coupling, hence the reason the solid isolator coupling is included in the pulley upgrade. Its normal to hear this sound, don't worry. If you really want to freak out... pull the snout off the supercharger and look at the wear marks created by the clacking part. There is a ton of info about this in the Cadillac forums. I read an article a few months back where a lead design engineer justifies this entire event. If I can find it I will post the link to the interview.
