How does the rear bowtie emblem come off?
I bought some SS emblems so I can remove the bowtie emblem from the rear part of my car. I'm just wondering if it's held on with double sided tape or is it actually bolted on?

Another trick is to take the trunk liner out, and push on the posts from the backside with a long screwdriver. Works like a charm

You don't even need a tough wire either, I did it to mine with a just a single string of dental floss.

much easier with a putty knife
I managed to do it without scratching the paint.... the floss/wire thing just made me frustrated.

Use a sawing motion or a straight pull?
How hot does it need to be? |

It's kind of a slight pressured sawing motion, angled from top to bottom and switched back a bit. The heat needs to be pretty hot, almost to where you can't touch it, I wear gloves to make sure that the wire dosen't cut my hands.....The wire I use is MIG wire right out of the welder because it is plentiful at the shop.

Has anyone tried applying goo-gone or some other paint safe adhesive remover behind the bowtie before removing it? Like apply some goo-gone where the bowtie meets the trunk and let it sit for a bit before applying heat. Maybe this can loosen up the tape more and make removing it a little easier?

Anybody know if there is a post/hole underneath the factory SS badge in the corner of the trunklid? I wanted to remove it since installing the SLP "SS" in place of the factory bowtie; but didn't want to pull it until I was sure there are no holes underneath.

Also ... if the original emblem has 2 posts (I assume to locate it, since they don't "hold it on"), do the aftermarket "SS" emblems also have posts to put it in the exact same location?
"DragonZ28" suggest pushing on the posts from inside the trunk, so I assume then they go straight thru the rear body panel ... So if the aftermarket "SS" emblem does not have posts, does it at least cover up the factory holes in the rear body panel? Sorry ... I haven't gotten my car yet, but I wanna make sure I'm ready when it does arrive ... |
