Low oil pressure
Hey everyone,
So I went to start up my car and immediately I get a “low oil pressure shut off engine” and I automatically assume it’s the sensor. Swapped it out and it didn’t fix the problem. So I drained the oil and found very minimal metal shavings, some bigger than others, and oddly enough a metal pin. The metal shavings had me worried enough but a small metal pin being found in my oil is definitely alarming. Not sure if any of y’all have a clue what the pin could be from but any advice would be greatly appreciated. |

It don’t come easy.

The “pin” could be a remnant of a needle bearing. I have nothing to confirm that with. Just putting it out there.

Yep, looks like a needle bearing from one of your rocker trunnions. That likely means you have a ton more of them in the pan and scattered throughout.

Do the needle bearings taper down to a point on one end? All the photos I’ve seen shows them different from what I’ve found.

Sounds like one of them found their way to an oil blockage somewhere

Inspect the oil pump.
To be safe, pull the rocker covers and inspect everything. Use a strong magnet on the bottom of the oil pan and see if you can draw more pins to the drain plug hole. Yes, it could be a needle bearing if it was wearing on other moving parts creating the taper. Did you have the stock rockers fail before doing the upgrade?

Yea the Needle Bearing Races have to fail in order for the needles to get out, one side can get more loaded than the other.... so that taper is easily explainable assuming it was being worn before it escaped......Of course I have no judgement of the length of that metal.....
In ANY scenario, this engine needs torn down and inspected and probably rebuilt if it is then already apart.... I am attaching a stock "removed in good order" needle bearing and length for reference if it matters to you.

That is strange, there are no needle bearings in the oil pump so I would be curious where the needle bearings came from if not from those rockers.
