Carbon Buildup on pistons

I am pretty much waiting on my heads to be completed to finish up my cam install. Is it worth attempting to clean up the carbon buildup on the pistons? If so what's the best process?

Brake cleaner and a scotch bright pad work well

Actually, WD40 and scotch brite works really well. You can get cans of WD40 that are a pump spray instead of aerosol.

Honestly, i hurts nothing at all to leave it. I would ve worried and was worried when i did my top end build about a piece of carbon getting into the rings and causing an issue. If you attempt, i would clean at a slow pace and vaccum the hell out of the cylinders

Bring pistion to TDC , clean carefully and one at a time , take care not to get stuff in the water jackets and bolt holes , cut strips of strong cloth make great plugs, masking tape can also help for places like the lifter valley or even to cover up the block deck as you clean

Run some e-85 through it, it will clean itself. When the shop did my cam change at 74,000, the pistons were clean.
