I now have my 7.925 pushrods, so I guess I will give them a try even though its only 0.025 in more length, I guess its good to have different lengths of pushrods around for other builds if I can't sell them. While I have the valve covers off I should listen with the stethoscope again and might be able to probe it on the actual rocker arm if I can do it without breaking something. |

I always have suspected that yes, but I can put the stethoscope on the fuel lines and identify the distinct injector and fuel pulse noises, I can also get closer to the HPFP but I don't hear anything get any louder. It is definitely loudest whenever I get near the valley cover area.
One thing I also want to do just to rule it out, is replace all the exhaust gaskets. I know usually everyone reuses the manifold gaskets I think I do remember seeing a little more soot around the exhaust port mounting surface, but I was in a hurry and didn't take a lot of time to look at it and I have taken it off and put it back on with the same stock MLS gasket a lot of times as well. I also ordered the ring for the collector seal and the metal flange gasket after the passenger side primary cat. I know exhaust leaks can sound a lot like ticks and lifter ticks so I need to just replace everything so I can rule that out. With that said has anyone ever noticed their HPFP being louder after a cam swap with a bigger fuel lobe? I did double check the clearances to ensure the HPFP isn't bottoming out as well with the new cam. I am just running the stock fuel pump lobe lifter with no lash cap. |

I replaced all the exhaust flange and manifold gaskets, and while I was at it I figured I would try putting in the 7.925 pushrods I ordered. Then I noticed the LS7 lifters had become solid then I noticed the 7.925s was holding the valves open. So I put the 7.900 I had been running back on and then the valve was still being held open. So couldn't figure out what was going on, especially with the very unpredictable way these lifters will pump up all the way solid even with a cold engine that hasn't been ran in 24 hours, and then no matter how long you wait they never bleed down, even 3 years because I had my original non-AFM lifter still pumped all fully all the way after 3 years of sitting there.
So I know for sure when I put in the 7.900s in a few weeks ago I had around 0.085 preload, so I figured even though I could clearly see the valve open, I would try the 7.925's anyway. So I did and I couldn't start it at all, you could hear the starter just spin with no load and it fire off a little but nothing, it wouldn't build any compression. So tore it back apart again, and decided to go the opposite direction and put in some older 7.800 pushrods I had from my original cam install even though I was only getting about 0.040 of preload with them, they would allow the valves to close. The lifters also still felt fully pumped up and solid since you couldn't press them down no matter how hard you pushed on the top of the pushrod. So it seems like the noise is the same. It may be HPFP related just because it gets really bad at around 1800-2000 rpms, then once you get past about 2200 rpms it almost disappears. It's real "clickity" sounding. These springs are supposed to be .710 max lift but I am wondering if they are binding somehow. I want to try the conicals but I just can't find any retainers since I can't find my original retainers and I think they got thrown away when my heads got CNC'ed. |

wow that sucks, I too went from TSP cam to cam motion mine is sub .600 lift. I had .660 lift txspeed valve springs but have since gone to much lighter springs for a LS that I have to shim in. Forget the specs now, I'll go look for them, I lowered the fuel cut from 7350 RPM to 6900 RPM. My cam looks good at 20K miles and 6 years. I hope I get 20K before I look at it again. I feel good that I went to a much lighter spring and lower fuel cut.
FWI GM has a NA cam for there L8P 218 /231 .549 lift on 121 LSA. which I would do if I have any issues with my current cam motion. I thought this was interesting, they have a whipped out cam the blame the oil and sell the customer an even bigger cam.

+1, their derision almost oozes off the screen.
The boss (the guy who lost a lot of weight, his name is Fran, I think) has mellowed a bit, but based on a short sampling of their videos from many years ago and most recently, the rest of the crew has the same pompous attitude.

My valvetrain maybe a little more quiet, now that you mention it.
I did respec all the pushrods now that everything is broken in and I think I ended up with all the exact same length I'm thinking I'm going to TSP adjustable rocker arms after this... The LT1 hotcam is more radical and only makes a tad more HP. The L8P i s running a truck intake and a truck exhaust manifolds, I would think Camaro OEM headers and a LT2 intake / LT5 TB would bring 20 HP to the party, maybe a tad more, compare this to the crate motor big cam LS7 at 570 HP at some ungodly price. $16000 and even though I like the engine, I bet the L8P would last 3x as long...
