My other hobby is collecting football helmets. I don't know if anyone remembers but Army wore these awesome Camo helmets for last years Army-Navy game- Anyway, the helmets were "painted" using this technique.

tarjac.com did the helmets for them and is where I found out about this process- it's unbelievably cool...here is an episode from Orange County Choppers about it

My son and I installed an airaid in my car last night. Had the same problem with that bolt. I looked at it closer. The bolt from airaid has a different thread pitch. We made a quick run to the auto parts store and got the correct size and it fits great. Funny thing, the nut they supplied is the correct pitch.

That would definitely explain it. I don't think I am going to worry about it because I am NOT going to pull everything out to attach that bracket.

Perhaps I can squeeze it in without taking everything apart?

Seems so - I wonder if it affects all kits or just some?

Could be that somebody just grabbed a handful out of the wrong bin while packaging the kits.

Luckily it wasn't a main part of the kit and can be left off.

I'd say it was a "Whoops". I'm certain that they build more than one CAI and they all don't use the same bolts so, If it can happen...it will happen.

Same issue with mine.... one bolt with the wrong thread pitch. $2 at the parts store fixed that. Since I got mine for $300 shipped, I'm not gonna complain!

(ck. fig.#12... 6mmx12mm hex bolt).....Try to screw it in without the bracket if you can't then it is the wrong bolt......
It will be harder to get at it now that you have the box attached. You could bend the box back a little with a small block or something to get at it.

You said the hole is not stripped, So the bolt is stripped or it's the wrong size !
You can't do it with the ground lug attached to the bracket.

Gentleman,

Out of the hundreds we have sold so far, this is the first we have heard that the bolt does not "fit". It it is a little "Tight" with the bracket and needs to be started with the fingers, however the bolt fit's

The bolt designed for the hole is 6mm x 12mm Hex Head Bolt. I had production check all the kit's in stock and they all have the correct hardware in them.

There is a "similar" Hex Head bolt supplied in the kit, however it is larger and thicker and clearly will not fit in the fender well. It would be pretty hard to confuse the two bolts. I have attached a picture comparing the size of the 2 Hex Head bolts.

The Bolt is designed to just thread into the fender to support that bracket.

I will attach a picture of the bolt below, and if anybody needs a new bolt, send me a PM and I will be happy to send you out another bolt.

6mm x 12mm Hex Head Bolt

6mm x 12mm Hex Head Bolt Vs. 1/4-20 x 3/4" Hex Head Bolt

Thanks,
David

Here's my original thread on the subject...

http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=43367

I have had zero issues and I'm very happy with this $30 mod... I've done probably 8 to 10 dyno pulls since doing this and about a dozens or so 1/4 mile runs at the track...

It's worth noting that the Airaid intake relocates the MAF/IAT away from the radiator so it seems that may help somewhat. This has not been confirmed though.

I have never heard any pinging what so ever... even on the dyno with the hood up... First tank or two was 91 but since then I've run been running just 87... I've but a couple thousand miles on since doing this...

just put in the Airaid Cai, and I like it. Next, long tube headers. Does any body have an idea what is good for the price? will spend about a grand or so for install and then get tuned. This is my first post, although I have read this site for months while waiting for my baby to be delivered. You guys are extremely knowledgable, I think i'm getting addicted...

I have data loggers and stuff for the bike but the interface is different. I think they are both "CAN" systems but, I'm afraid it's above my level ATM! hehe!

I'm looking at the Dash Hawk for the short term though.... I gotta get on the dyno and out to the strip to get baselines for the mods so far.

I suppose I could use the IR thermometer to get some numbers on the housing but that won't tell me what the PCM is getting from the IAT. Little bit at a time I quess....

Great folks at Airaid

Just a comment about the folks at Airaid. They are class "A" customer service people!!
I had a few questions about thier system by e-mail, and they actually called me!
I don't know about the rest of you folks, but I find it very hard to actually get a chance to speak with a real person at big companies anymore.
They answered all my questions and gave me some great tips.
A big thanks to David at Airaid - keep up the great work guys and gals!

I've done the same thing and run 87 octane. No pings coming from under my hood and no heat soak of the IAT.

I've posted this before and I'll do it again.

Go drive your car for about 15 - 20 minutes. Go back home and park the car in the garage or out. Pop the hood and feel how hot the intake tube is, stock or aftermarket. Close the hood and let it sit. Go back out in about 20 - 30 minutes and pop the hood again. Fell how much more hotter the intake is now. You can't tell me all that heat doesn't travel right into the MAF / IAT sensors and cause heat soak.

30 bucks and about 15 minutes well spent in my book.
