Replace the restrictive factory intake with an aftermarket one (I suggest K&N or SLP) and a new intake manifold, get full header back exhaust (SLP, Magnaflow, Edelbrock). Those should really open it up. Throw some lower gears and fatter tires on the rear end to get it moving off the line. There's some basics for you.

All depends on how much you have to spend....simple as that.

There's the easy stuff mentioned above that will cost some cash. But, to really get it moving, you'll need an engine mod.

yea the most you have with that 91 RS is a 305, unless there was an engine mod befor you got it or the owner says its a 350.

then if thats the case drop a 350 or a 355 or a 383.

Ok a 5.0 V8 is the 305
The 5.7L V8 is the 350 & those only came in either the irocz (87-90) or the Z28s 91-92

I've been rereading your posts, and I think we need to pace ourselves here. I, at one point, knew nothing about cars, and I still have a lot to learn.

Since you're not certain of your motor or what to do to improve it, I would take your time and learn. If you want some instant gratification, get $1,200 together for bolt-ons. You don't want to spend a lot of money on incompatible parts and warranty-violating performance parts.

If you can afford an engine replacement on top of the mods you want, that's your decision. I just don't want to see a potential car enthusiast be deterred from a great passion because he blew up his car as a consequence of insufficient car knowledge.

Cam, heads, rockers/valves, higher comp pistons that sort of thing.

No. None of the above are worth it in a 5.0L. It's a neat little engine, but it's not a great engine to mod really...I've owned two of them. For the cost of all that you can get a carbed 5.7L and get more out of your money, then add mods for that engine (which are WAY more plentiful than the 5.0L).

depends you can get one for a few hundred that you would need to rebuild or you can go get a 350 crate motor that is already dont but that will cost a couple k.

My engine when it went I have now a total about 5k in to the engine. My husband spent about 2500 on a crate motor 290 Hp 350.

I disagree. I have seen some bored 327's that haul some insane ass. Plus, alot of the aftermarket for the 350 applies to the 305 since they share many esential similarities.

I thought a 327 was a de-stroked 350.

I'd get the ZZ4 350. Very friendly to mods and much cheaper. 350 stock, and it can make 450hp easily.
