you got tht right, passanger use is the only LOGICAL use for this...although, you'll probably catch some people on their laptop while driving

How about sitting around a fest, with your netbook out and your feet up. Sounds good to me.

If you're on your computer at a car show, you've missed the point

It's called downtime. At some point you will want to sit down and take a little break and sneak in some internet.

Not interested. If I didnt already have a 2010, Wi-fi wouldnt be a feature that would make me wait for a 2011.

It is available now and I have it in mine. Speed is awesome and my Droid connects to it with no problem for faster servcie. I have to connect to work via a VPN from the car periodically and it works great. Monthly pricing is very reasonable ($29). Allows up to 10 wifi connections at once. My son loves to "Vchat" on his laptop in the backseat from the Camaro!!! I have it on the sidewall in the trunk next to my Sub and drew the power straight from the subwoofer.

I can understand that people these days need internet on the go - but with mobile data plans getting popular, and available wireless tethering on a lot of phones you could do the same without having a wireless router built into your car, at the same monthly cost.

I like the idea - but I think there are better options available.

True, but the monthly ($29) on this is very reasonable compared to most aircards (I was paying $59) and the speed is much better. It also allows you to keep the same IP address no matter which carrier it is using even as it switches from carrier to carrier, tower to tower. My aircard would drop often and restart the connection often times losing connection to my VPN. This has a feature that keeps you connected as you make those various tower/carrier transitions. It is also not tied to one carrier like an aircard. Only key downside is you are tied to the car for use as range is 150' from car.

that piece is all ready available we have been installing them in cars at my shop for about 2 years now, they do work pretty well but can be expensive.

I added WIFI to mine last week. Used the Cradlepoint CTR500 and it let's me plug in USB modem that I have for work. So in my case I didn't need a dedicated data plan for the car and the USB stick goes in my breifcase for use away from the car. My GPS/carputer has internet capability this let's me Goggle a location and then it sets a route to it. That's kinda handy plus you can pull over and send that email to close next deal so you can but more Camaro toys. Hey, my SS is a business car after all.

What I don't like about the GM option is that it's big, expensive and it most likely requires a dedicated data plan. Those plans all add up after awhile. Onstar, XM, WIFI at a total about $760 or more per year for a bunch of stuff that's tied to your car. What's next a GM firewall and virus plan for $300+ per year?

Maybe GM wants your car online? Do a Google on OBD-3.
