Unless you are towing a large boat, I'd say the V6 has enough power.

Hey brjray what's up! reading the Barton Industries threads on the short throws sure seem to sound like getting through the gears is a breeze. Another wish list item for me!

Of course there is a ton of info in the V8,V6 tranny threads.

I believe it loosens up in time. 1-2 used to be "clunky"; lotta posts about it. I've got 5k miles and it's pretty slick now.

I have not driven an SS, but after driving this V6 for a couple days and can see that it is going to be one awesum car, I can only imagine what a handfull an SS could get to be.. I have already had mine sideways withouT trying hard.. I had driven my Son's 98 Z28 and I swear this is very close to that in how it feels seat of the pants wise.

i got my ss (2000)when i was 17 and if i where you i would get the 1ss used for a couple grand more. you might ask why ? 2 very important reasons
1) you cant beat the sound of an 8
3) if you save and get a ls3, when you take your friends out they will love the v8, how it hauls the extra 4 to 500 lbs. there faces will light up and say man this car kicks ass
that is all

Hmm you either have one big ass friend, or several small friends that can fit in the back... Not much room back there for normal sized people that may add 4 to 500 lbs... LOL

Dude just test drive both and decide. Go to a dealership that has both cars.

I basically test drove the 6 witout testing the 8 I said to myself if this is a 6 the 8 must be more exciting!

I think for the majority of people on this forum, we gave up on showing our friends how big our balls are.
As a Veteran I have all the ribbons and medals I need. I dont need to Impress anyone and I dont need anyone telling me that my car kicks ass.
as far as I'm concerned if you dont like my base model V6 you can kiss my ass, I guess thats another way to get their faces to light up huh?

plus your friends must be tiny. I can barely fit my 6 yr old in the back seat of this thing.

that is all

maybe a better question is, "is the V8 too powerful". Unless you are going on a track the extra power is pretty much useless for day to day driving and cruising.

the quarter mile time is useless as you can't legally go that fast on public roads, and if caught, 100 mph fines are pretty steep - you'll probably have a mandatory visit to the judge. The 0 to 60 second time is negligible when you factor in the human factor and having to watch cars in front, cars on your side (if merging on a highway), etc.

If you goal is to get your head snapped back harder, want deeper noise, get the v8. If you marvel engineering, look at the V6. It gets more power per liter, handles every bit as good as the V8, maybe a little better in steering. It does this without the more pricey brembos, premium fuel, more expensive oil, and better mileage. The V6 is a look at the future, the V8 will soon be the past.

I drove a LT1 V8, hard, for fifteen years. This V6 is very impressive, not quit as much torque, but still very quick. For me, it has to be a manaul transmission. Plenty of power, cheaper gas, cheaper insurance, I can fit 18" snow tires, I have a spair and I saved $10,000! The exhaust note does not compare to the V8 though, so I'm going to install a catback system to fix that issue.
