New Addition:

I got the Pedder's Extreme Street suspension system on the car yesterday and had it installed by Mike Haddad at Haddad Motorsports in Los Angeles. He and his crew did a great job including a full chassis alignment and lowering the car.

My first impressions are "wow". What a difference. All the sponginess and squirm of the suspension feels gone. When accelerating you can feel the difference in the back of the car; it seems to accelerate quicker now. Handling and steering are precise, crisp and a joy. The car rides very well and you especially notice it over rough or uneven pavement where before it would squirm and "walk" around with bushing and suspension flex. Now it's solid; the suspension tracks the changes in the surface smoothly, precisely and there's no drama in the handling...at all.

The first two pics I apologize for; I took them with my iPhone under bad lighting but they show the Pedder's coilovers in the front and rear.

The next set of pics show the car right after I washed it today as it sits now, properly lowered.

Another update:

After all these mods I've had done I decided to take the car today to a truck scale and get it weighed. I gassed up with a full tank and it now weighs 3,789.8 lbs. I never weighed it when it was stock (which I should have) but assuming the factory advertised weight of 3,860 lbs stock, I've eliminated 70.2 lbs of weight and almost all of that is reduced unsprung weight.

The car feels quite different now. When accelerating it slams you back in the seat and leaps forward which is different than before when I first got it where the acceleration felt like I was pushing against a headwind. I'm loving this car more and more and more.

I still have the rear rotors on order and I've almost got a deal going for a group buy for a 1-piece carbon fiber driveshaft which should eliminate more unsprung rotational weight as well as improve the efficiency of delivering power to the differential.

Just a few more mods, then paint details and I'll be done. I love this car!

Nice look! It is great to see a Camaro not slammed! Your ride looks sweet. I have spent a lot of time with mike and his crew and they are first class.

Starting to do some small changes to the body. I have a spoiler on order from MPD but in the meantime I put vinyl inserts on the bowties, put SS logos on the sides, and last night I painted the tail light bezels charcoal gray metallic. I thought the color was going to be darker so I may go darker still but I like the look. I'm going for the afterburner look of the Blue Angel's planes:

Very very nice Doc. I like that a lot! I agree, a little darker might be even better, maybe a matte black??? But your car looks very sharp and is coming together very nicely. I need a concept like you have for mine.

I was lucky tonight because I got to meet up with a local C5 member that has an IBM Camaro and after seeing one close to my IOM I think IBM rally stripes on IOM will look really sharp, especially with some sort of accent or outline color like rally yellow. I may have to see what that would look like or maybe even a black outline....lots to consider.

I love your car though, you've really made it your own.

Hey DOC,

I just revisited your pictures and build again. Great job! Seeing your ride brings back tons of fantastic memories of all the times I have seen the Blue Angels perform! I will only be concerned when you start to put on the afterburners! LOL

thanks for sharing!

Thank you for the compliments everyone.

Got the MPD-1 spoiler and installed it; looks great! Been working from early to dark the last few days so I haven't had time to take some good pics but Thursday I'm off and I'll take some good shots and post them then.

Here's a few shots of the way it looks now with the MPD-1 rear spoiler. I really like the looks of this spoiler! The car is dusty and needs washing but it's overcast and the clouds were coming in fast so I'm not washing it today. In fact you can see by the last photo how dark it was getting to be with dark clouds coming in already blocking the sun.

In the first 2 pictures you can see the gray metallic on the tail light bezels. I got another darker shade of paint and repainted them but they're still lighter than I was envisioning. I tell you, the color on the caps of the paint cans always seems to be much darker than the actual paint.

Thinking about it, but I have to come up with something that doesn't look hokey.

hey I was wondering if you don't mind me asking could you pm the place you got those rims from and how much they cost. Also was curious what size 275 those are 275-?-19"
That car is bad ass looking. I'm looking for my next mods I want to buy when I get back home at the end of the summer. I'm thinking of doing 275-30-19 in the front and 305-30-19 in the rear.

The rims are from Nutek and they are the 505 model which I had custom painted. Contact Nine Ball on the forum; he's a dealer and can give you pricing. Tire size is 275/40 19 on all 4 wheels. I'm building a road car as opposed to a drag racer so handling was more important to me than just rear tire grip.

Thank you for the compliment

A 30 is a pretty low profile tire and you'll feel it; they don't ride as comfortably as a 40 profile. That's not an issue for a 1/4 miler though so it depends on what you intend to use it for. I wanted some sidewall flex to help absorb the shock of supporting such a heavy car while on the street and a road course. The car handles beautifully and has a very snug but comfortable ride. Going around a corner at speed it predictably goes from mild understeer to neutral to very mild oversteer as you control it with the throttle. And this is with the factory sways! I'm studying sway bar options at the moment to decide what to do there.

If things go right my next performance mod will be a one-piece carbon fiber driveshaft.

Well thank you for giving me the honor of your very first post on the forum! And welcome to Camaro5.

I'm planning on a dyno here in a couple of weeks so I want to do that first before I change anything else. I'm really interested to see how much of a difference a 1-piece CF driveshaft will make at the rear wheels compared to the stock 2-piece aluminum shaft.

for updates!

Have you figured out how/where to bring some more yellow in? I like the photoshop yellow you did. The picture of the jet made me think it would look cool if just the top tip of your rear spoiler was dipped in yellow.

I always enjoy reading your post and reading about what you're trying to achieve with your car's performance and theme!
