its not a subwoofer.. just the actual speaker from the 560GTI series. its a component set, a tweeter and a midrange woofer I simply just used the woofer.. its JBL's highest end setup, I got it as a favor from JBL to match my 660GTI's in my doors and rear lid.

I don't think a 3.5" is a woofer. Midrange at best. It might go down to 100hz, maybe.

Unbelievable difference. NEVER would I have thought to do this. Read about this a couple hours ago. Just came back in from testing this thread. DO IT. You will NOT believe the difference. I taped the plug to the speaker to keep the wire from rattling around. For those who want to drop another 1/2 lb from the Camaro just take the speaker out all together.

Thanks to this thread the music will be have a cleaner sound.

Wow wouldnt of believed it if i didnt try it myself. I actually unpluged it and replugged while it was on(Im sure not reccommended)and heard the difference immediatly. The sound is not as full but it is cleaner no doubt. I think I might look for a better speaker and replace instead of removing but for now I am leaving it out.

Unpluged the center speaker and put it back in this morning. Took 5 minutes tops.

Did it make a difference? Yes

Drastic? Not really

Good? Yes, more seperation of stereo as stated before

Leave it unplugged? Yes

It does make a difference that for now I like. FM, XM and iPod all do sound better in my opinion. Probably XM the most. I do seem to notice an increase in bass. Not sure why but there does seem to be more boost.

IMO, definately pop the grill and unplug the speaker. Extremely easy and no rattle.

Just to make sure I thought I could hear the difference, I had my wife come out and listen to it too. She said the same thing "noticed an increase in bass,” and a cleaner sound.

it seems to be a mostly midrange speaker, i kept mine it cause i found that the speaker makes it louder but with it out it adds more clarity and seperation i cant decide D:

In my case this tip was Very noticeable. It may depend on what type music you listen to as to how much difference it makes. I listen to a lot of smooth jazz and the difference was very nice. Thanks you all for yet another FREE improvement.

I unplugged the center speaker the other day. WOW, there is a difference. Everything seems to be much clearer than before. Nice find!

The 'center' in this stereo just combines left and right, it is completely useless. It isnt like a home stereo where the center is used for voices to make them more clear. I dont understand why they do that to so many car stereos now days.

Three weeks now after doing this and each day I like this stereo more. The bass level has really improved and channel seperation is much more noticeable. Basically the overall sound is much, much better. And it's reversable to stock in 5 minutes or less (but you won't go back!)

I am not an "Audiophile" by any strech, but this is an awesome change/upgrade and the price is right!

I must have spent a half hour to 45 minutes listening to various songs of different genres with and without that center speaker in place. I must be the only one here, but in the end.....I put it back in place hooked up.

Maybe listening through other sources makes a bigger difference or something, but for me, I listen to my music from a thumb drive and I definitely did not notice a huge difference.

What I did notice:
- Yes there may have been a bit of an improvement in seperation, but it wasn't huge. Maybe if I had listened to a track that more specifically makes use of left and right speakers purposely to fulfill an effect it would have stood out more.
- Bass does seem to come through more, and a bit louder at that, but its only because there is now less sound comming from the front of the cabin and you are able to hear the rears more clearly.
- Adding on to above point, I felt I had to turn up the volume a few clicks more to achieve the same desired volume level.
- Hope this makes sense, but at one point I closed my eyes and just tried to listen as closely as I could. With the center speaker in, it seemed like the sound source was higher, more level with my head. (To rephrase that in another way, imagine you have your eyes closed, and you hear a sound and you try to determine where it is comming from from the sound alone. ) Without the center in, it seemed as though the sound source was lower and not so "surrounding".
- Seemed like the treble....the really high tones were just not quite as loud.

To recap, if someone would have just suddenly taken my center speaker out without my knowing, I would have probably never even realized it, but trying it on your own you do notice subtle differences.

In my opinion (and going with my original thoughts) I think just adding one 10" subwoofer will make the system perfect. At that point I'll be able to turn down the bass and rely more on the large woofer, (which should stop any of that "buzzing" some of you might be hearing b/c there will be less of a strain on the speakers). By the way, my bass is only set on 5 or 6.

In the end, give it a shot...its easy to try, and maybe you will like it much more.

Just did it, took about 3 minutes, I like it much better.

And to the guy who suggested turning Treble/Mid/Bass to 0 and adjusting from there...

Bravo Sir... BRAAAVOOO

Much clearer, crisper sound at high volumes by doing this. Bass sounds nice and clean

Yes, this is correct. I have my bass at "0" and treble and mid at "2" for the time being.

But reducing the tone settings to zero and working up will certainly help.

must try this. Kinda disappointed for a "premium" sound system. I can hear a ton of sound from the center speaker... so much so that Ive moved it to mostly rear to try and avoid it.

What sort of music are you folks listening to that you need so much bass? (I don't have a Camaro yet and I have never heard the BA system) Whats the need for so much "thump"?

LOGIC 7 technology is a proprietary suite of surround algorithms developed and introduced by Lexicon.

LOGIC 7 technology is used for recording and distributing multi-channel sound on two channel media. It uses psychoacoustic techniques to restore the original channel separation with very little change in sound. LOGIC 7 technology offers a universal multi-channel sound solution.

It plays normal stereo recordings in full and satisfying surround, with a wide sound stage and increased envelopment, while standing ready to play encoded material in full surround. Multi-channel recordings encoded with LOGIC 7 technology, play in every system capable of handling two-channel material, and can be broadcast with standard equipment.

With the JBL MS-8 it takes it a step further actually utilizing your vehicle for what its meant to be and separating the channels to best suit the music's needs.
