Obviously, I love the Camaro. Otherwise, I wouldn't have taken then plunge. It is a cool looking car. it is comfortable. it handles well. you can do a lot of mods yourself.

Having said that, Ford did a nice job upgrading the interior. the Sync Nav system, is without a doubt, awesome. I played with one in a Flex rental not too long ago. All I can say is wow.

Bottomline to me is they are both good vehicles. The only real issue o have with the 2011 Mustang is the rear design.

My decision, as should be yours, was based on what I felt best met my criteria. That is thenfun part of the decision making process.

Interesting reading your evaluation and noticing when you are talking about the Mustang... It is all mustang for that portion.... When you switch to a Camaro portion you throw in the Mustang, Challenger, and 335i.... There is also a good bit of contradiction through out both parts.....

And while the title only mentions the 335i, the bulk of your post is about the Mustang...

I actually believe that the Mustang crowd is a lot more diverse than the Camaro crowd...


But there are also 10+ Freakin models of Mustang and only 5 Models of Camaro....

Which is a lot of why the Camaro appeals to me..... I am less apt to run across 5 soccer moms driving a car that looks like mine.


PS.. Nothing wrong with Soccer or Moms.

Really I was comparing the Mustang vs Camaro. I was turning in the 335i that was leased. I prefer V8s so the GT and the SS each had a chance to be my next car. I am not knocking the BMW. It is a great car and it was fun to drive it for a few years.

Yes lots of contradictions. Buying a motor head car is as much as a subjective decision as an objective one.

The Challenger was never in the running for me. Good looking but too big and too heavy.

I love the low roof. I think its one of the coolest things about the car... It is almost how they chop the roof on hot rods and make them lower. Unless your like 7ft tall then yeah I'd hate it too. I was beside a new Stang yesterday and the roof just roll's up to high in my opinion. Other than that I wouldn't take anything away from the new Mustang body styles, it isn't a bad looking car.

The Camaro has body lines that can't be beat. To many Mustangs on the road in so many styles body kits colors stripes and so on. Camaro sticks out and says something with out all the added components.

I am ready to make my move. There are two black 2011-2SS/RS-6M-Roofs near me. I probably will come home with one of them. It is the end of the month. A time for wheeling and dealing. We will see what they both really give me for my WS6.

Both of those black 2SSes have the black interior. I really wanted the inferno seats as it makes the interior more interesting for me. But the closest one I could find was 200 miles away.

I cannot join USAA, I was not in the service and my dad was not a member. So I cannot get that discount. But i do have the supplier and credit union discounts. But I do not think I can use both together. One dealer was actually taking $500 off list! So with the supplier discount I think I am getting close to invoice.

Yes, the Camaro is growing on me. Since I am ready to buy I looked around today for black 2011 Mustang GTs just in case I changed my mind at the last minute.

After looking at the dealer pics I decided no way. The Camaro gets the nod this time around. I hope the black/black color combo is not too drab. Maybe there are ways to liven it up.

This is a pretty easy answer. Sync was designed with Microsoft. Microsoft has being doing UI's for 25-30 years. They know what people complain about and they know what they like. Add to that that MS knows programming systems as opposed to in house developed nav systems which are done by those who don't have the expertise. It is more about experience with systems and customers.

I've used the following Navs: Lexus/Toyota, BMW, Mercedes, Ford (Sync), Chevy (Onstar).

It is by far the easiest to use and navigate. Things are where they should be. I would say Merc is right behind Sync but it isn't touch screen and uses some F'ed up knob which I don't care for.

Also, the list of compatible devices is very extensive and you will know exactly what features you can and cannot use before you plug in the device. Then, on top of that, you can update the system yourself. Go to syncmyride.com, download the update to a USB drive, plug into your sync system and BAM you've been updated.

As a matter of fact my Sync system was having issues downloading my phonebook on my Android phone because of "linked" contacts (a.k.a. linking someone's FB info to the info on my exchange server). I updated the Sync system with a flash drive I had and the issue was solved. Now, not everything is solved (I'd still like txt support on Android) but that was an easy fix.

It's a great system and worth every penny in my personal opinion. Certain things require ongoing subscriptions (Sirius Travel Link) but they are obnoxiously cheaper than Onstar and not all that expensive absolutely ($70/yr).

i think, by and large, people who drive BMW's are dicks/biotches.

Now that is not everyone, but it seems that if someone is a dick/biotch they are more likely than not driving a BMW. I don't know what it is... but that's the way it rolls here in Houston.

It is the sole reason I won't drive one. They are nice cars, very selvet, well executed but oddly priced and way too much of a rep comes with them.

I will say that i don't like the gills as well until you put inlays in them...sets it of subtly and still retains some class.. my personal thoughts on that..

For styling, for had done a decent job of retroing the mustang to keep up with it's competition, but I think the back of the mustang was a huge mistake. A friend of mine Races mustangs has his own dyno shop here in phx, and was working on a GT500 for a customer when i commented on the back end. He said he would never buy the current mustang till they changed the back end.

I ended up with this SS from Mall Chevy, in Cherry Hill, NJ

They had a nice selection of Camaros SSes, treated me fairly, gave me a fair price on the SS, got me great financing, and most importantly gave me a fair price for my Gen-4 WS6 trade in.

Most dealers do not want Gen-4s and price the trade in accordingly.

Dan Reilly was my sales agent and was a nice no pressure guy to work with.

I love driving the car so far. Once I get more time in it I will post a final review and post my reflections on my decision.

You are right, not all BMW drivers are DHs. The jerks who drive BMWs call attention to themselves on the road and give BMW drivers a bad name. But I met lots of cool people who were into cars. Even addicted BMW 1/4 milers just like here. They do not mind risking their very expensive engines, transmissions, and differentials for 10 seconds of fun.

Camaro owners also have a rep too. I do not fit. I do not care, I like the car.

Drive what you dig, damn the torpedos.

ive made some great contacts thanks to here, and other forums.
i love GMInsider and im also a car nut. my passion was revived several years ago when things slowwlly got less and less UGLY. hahha. then, while buying a car in 06, i saw the camaro poster.

As I drive the Camaro SS I am reminded of the Gen 1 CTS-V more so than the LS2 GTO. The Cadillac seemed tighter. I really liked the Gen 1 CTS-V. Not so sure about the CTS-V Gen 2. I know it is awesome, but it is so heavy.

Enjoying the LS3 so far. 250 miles. When can you open it up?

Speed impression:
  • Stock Camaro SS > Stock 335i
  • Stock Camaro SS = 335i with $250 JB+ tune - Would be a drivers race.

First Mods:
  • Shifter Upgrade (heard it is a PIA)
  • Better looking grille
  • Cat/Axle back (Keep the decibels low - Magnaflow Hush? No drone?)
  • Subwoofer/Amp (I have a high end Kicker 10" and a Discus MB Quartz)

Later:
  • LTs
  • CAI
  • Tune - (Voids Warranty?)

One other thing would be nice. The 2SS console gauge/shifter plastic trim is very low rent. It would be nice to match the grey shiny panel on the doors. Is this out there?

The other thing is I was considering the Metra 2D with a new HU. But now that I understand several things are affected including the HUD I am passing on that for now. Where to mount the GPS?

Also despite my preconceived notions I am liking XM. I know the sound quality is not the best but I like the variety. I may renew. Not so sure about the $400 lifetime. Too many bucks all at once.
