Yes, we are going to name the SST differential "Eleanor". It will be a race to get it finished. In a few more weeks it becomes the critical path in the build schedule.

OK. Here is the latest... Not super glamorous, but pretty slick engineering.
You know many have talked (the drag racers) about replacing the heavy front bumper assembly with something lightweight. Well...

First Pic - The black piece on top is the factory bumper. The middle piece is made out of aluminum and that is replacing the bumper. The bottom piece is the portion of the Air-To-Water Intercooler that has access to cold outside air.

But....

Second Pic - That middle piece is not just a flat piece of aluminum - it IS the water reservoir for the A2W intercooler system !!! The outside bumper shell mounts right to it/through it and when the SST is all back together you will never see it. Plus all of the thermal efficiencies are really high utilizing this method, so we killed two birds with one stone. Also note the top of the engine. Those are the twin Blow Off Valves that are mounted symmetrically.

Third Pic - This shows the great fabrication work these guys have done. The top right piece is the water reservoir, the bottom right piece is the Water portion of the Air To Water intercooler. There are pieces in the middle for removing bubbles from the system and these go to a high mounted surge tank. On the left is the massive radiator. Also note that what would normally be radiator hoses is all stainless hard line.

Fourth Pic - This is the surge tank that completes the Air To Water Intercooler system.

Fifth Pic - To keep things symmetrical a radiator overflow tank was fabbed up to match the surge tank. Again, note the stainless hard line used in place of rubber radiator hoses. There are still little silicone connector joints for expansion/contraction and vibration, but they are very small.

Anyway, this probably is not very exciting to you, but I get really pumped over cool stuff like this. It looks 100% stock, but it is functionally superior.

That is AAWWWEEESSSSOOOMMEEE!!

Thank You. The turbos (as well as the engine) in the engine bay pics were for fabrication purposes only. I think we will end up using either 72's or 76's in the final configuration. The dyno will tell us which ones have the best area under the curve along with the driving characteristics we want the SST to have.

I've been thinking about Emma's cool carpet.
... Do you think they can make a fuel cell cover that looks like a can?

Hi ya Cyn. It's probably still a couple of weeks off, but getting closer. Have you been driving your Camaro around lately ?

So here is a clip of a 572 BBC race motor recently tested on the same dyno. The SST will NOT be anywhere near these numbers, but I wanted to give you an idea of how sick some of these things can be. Start watching around the 6:50 mark.

...and for more engine eye candy, here is a motor Tom would have loved to put in the SST, but it is WAY too exotic for this car. Maybe in a C7 Corvette.

With power like that, you DO need one long single rear tire in the back!!!!!!!

THAT IS INSANE!

I wonder how he would get the tire to spin if its one wide continuos tire along that back, eh knowing Bruce he will do like he did with the bumper cooler and find something to make one wide tire

He's going to have to do like he did with the bumper/radiator. He needs the one back wheel to server double duty. He could put the fuel in that huge back tire eliminating the need for a fuel tank. If he does a burnout, stand back!

Hey, that first pic is really cool... Have you ever seen a "water test" on one of those? They crank it up like that and dump about a pool's worth of ice water into it to see if it stays lit. Usually pretty crazy footage...
On a side note, one time we had a flame out on one of the Lycoming L55-T11's on the C55 turbine boat. It blew so hard that one of the panels on the steel roof 30 feet up buckled and came apart. From outside it looked like someone opened a tin can. After that we always pulled the turbine boats out before test firing...

It would be nice to at least have it still run for C5Fest2
