Yup. Go back to this thread from a year and a half ago:
That car has a roll cage too, and its an SS.

The simple explanation is that prototypes sometimes fail. Failure at over 100 mph in close proximity to solid objects (like walls) isn't exactly safe. So extra safety gear is fitted to the cars.
Note, if I've gotten any facts wrong in the above, just ignore any points I made with them

Looks like he shaved off more than a few seconds from the SS time, but don't expect CTS-V killer... looks tight!
