HOW MUCH $$$ HAS CAMARO5 COST YOU?

I realized today, as I'm about to install me new MPD1 Spoiler, that if I hadn't seen it on Camaro5 I never would have known about it, thus, never purchased it......

then... more thinking..... about ALL the "mods" I never would have known about without the C5 forum and members.....

Reading this forum has cost me a little over $5,000 in stuff I would have not even known I wanted, until I stumbled upon them on here and said, "I NEED that!"

In order to support my "habit" I guess I'll just postpone my retirement from the Navy until the addiction passes, or, all the evil vendors and members quit coming up with new cool stuff......

Maybe a new C5 motto would be in order:

"Camaro5, postponing retirements since 2006"

What's even more upsetting after spending $5,000 in mods is knowing it adds little additional value to your car. Mods are for your pleasure and enjoyment and not for the next owner of your car.
Thank you for your service to our country.

I thought I was satisfied with my car just the way it was until I came across C5. Probably spent half a years worth of car payments in 3 months.

I keep a spread sheet on every car i own and all of the "extra" expenses.
I don't even have this car yet and I am at $4,898.16. But i should get about $1,000-$1,200 of that back when i sell my stock 20" wheels and tires.

I think i am pretty much done for a few months, or at least i hope i am. I got ALL the bolt on stuff and quite a bit of dress up stuff.

After driving the car a few months I will be doing a cam and springs install, but don't see me going any further than that.

no worries on that.... as you said... my "enjoyment" and I've been told mods actually DECREASE the value of your car in the long run (collectors etc).

I think of the car as a "toy" and a hobby, not an investment.

Probably 600 or so. Bought a pistol grip shifter, aluminum bow ties, kick plates, cell phone holders. Oh, and add another 600 on a garage vac, rolling shelf, and tons of zaino cleaning product. Love it all, don't feel I've wasted a penny.
I also have a CAI and GMPP headers but bought those prior to reading the forum.
Oh yeah, can't forget the 1000 I spent on clear bra and having the car professionally clayed and detailed.

So a total of maybe 3500 in mods. Of which this forum drove 2200 or so. Jeeze!

But I wouldn't change a thing. The forum has helped educate me to make intelligent decisions.

speaking of great deals.... if you are in the beginning stages of the addiction my thread on coupon codes will save you a bundle:

http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=108828

I got those mostly from other threads and compiled them onto one thread... if you read the entire thread you will see posts from vendors with time updated deals from time to time.

My husband has spent a lot from ideas from C5 on our Camaro and I have thought about pulling "wife aggro" and make him not come onto the site for a while but then I turn around and see something on here and say "Hey honey, did you see this? That would look sweet on the Camaro!" and send him the link at work. I guess I don't help either... lol

Here is the thing about mods as has been pointed out. They do not add any value to your car. Not one penny. (usually) So knowing that, do not add any mod you cannot undo. When you go to sell your car take off all your mods and resell the parts. You can get $.50 to a dollar or more. Doing that cuts your costs in half. Doing the most popular mods with the most popular parts helps even more.

Mod smart. Have fun.

Personally speaking, I'm not much of an innovator on mods. I'm more of a "purist" and try to keep all mods from being "permanent" so that if I choose, I can go back all stock. For example, I just ordered a catback. But I'm keeping the stock exhaust just in case. Nothing on the car so far has been done that can't be undone.

That said, I get something out of Camaro forums and the people. Very creative ideas and folks with huge sacks (or ovaries as the case may be) to go and use their car as a starting point for making their dream car. And hopefully, that gives me ideas as well. I've spent a few bucks I probably never would have had I not seen others do first. I don't want an exact copy of someone's cars, but the ideas don't hurt when you can actually see the results.

I got some really great deals on some of my mods. But because
my wife lurks these pages sometimes I can't tell you all I've done
or how much they cost me. Or about how much the transmission &
TQ upgrades I ordered are going to be.

I have never modded a car before this one except for a simple amp and sub or drop in K&N filter. I realize I won't get any of this money back, but I plan on keeping it for quite some time. I have never taken ownership in a car like I have this one. Blacked out bowties, aac p13w's, blue footwell lights, blue led trunk and doom lights, roto-fab CAI, CNC ported throttle body, solo high flow cats, 21" black rims, 15% tint, sub and amp, gfx, painted engine cover with flames, and last but not least a big smile!

I just got my car about 3 weeks ago and I'm already starting to order stuff. I think this thread just cost me some money though, lol. I have the IOM with the IOM interior and I've been thinking about ordering those black SLP wheels. Can you post or send me some pics of your car so I can see what it would look like? I have white stripes and all, too.
