Do you need heat shields with headers?

Just ordered some JBA shortys with silver ceramic coating and was wondering if I'd have to keep the heat shields with them. I'd kinda like to be able to see them!
Will they even fit over the headers? Thanks for any info or opinions.

I bought a roll of tape that worked very well. Tape the surrounding components just in case.

With ceramic coating you shouldn't need the heat shield....not saying it can't help! But most are running them with no heat shield.

For a N/A, slightly modded motor, I'm gonna say negative. No need for a heatshield.

Some of the tolerances between my DT's and things surrounding them was very little. So I did it just in case....It's not an eye sore.

Going to agree with the consensus and say that's a negative on the heat-shield. I've been running without for 8000 miles and doing fine, even with a few 3-hour trips thrown in there.

The jury is still out for me. I did it since we are talking thermal characteristics that aren’t documented. The “What If” is to great for me to take the chance. 5 bucks later and I'm safer. Guess it’s the business I’m in that makes me think that way. It comes down to "Good Luck” for the OP.

Thank you for the info gents. I now look forward to the install.
Any tips, tricks or helpful hints would also be much appreciated!
Like: if I remove the dipstick for clearance, won't it (the oil) leak while its off? Do ya plug the hole or what?

Just stick the end of a clean shop rag in the hole to keep dirt out.
