To those with 93 octane tunes...
What do you do when you can only find 91 octane?

Drive to another gas station that has 93 and if you don't have enough gas to make the next station, just put in enough to make it to the station with 93 and fill it there.

Seriously, we have no places selling 93 octane (only 91) where I live in west texas and most if not all have ethanol. Wish I could find some 93.

I'm running into the same problem. I've requested an additional tune for 91.

If the tune is right there should be a low octain table which the car switches to when lower grade gas is used.IE- reading off the KR sensors.

I'm not sure, but I think that when the car is tuned, the high octane tables are also copied to the low octane tables. If you use gas with a lesser octane, I wouldn't drive it like I stole it.

That is why it should be tuned for 91 octane and not 93. And you could also always ask your tuner not to copy high octane tune to low tables. That would be the smart thing to do. You never know when you may even get crappy 93 gas.

The knock sensors will still do there job. I wouldn't sweat the occasional tank of 91. Maybe swing by an auto parts store and throw in a bottle of octane boost if you still want max performance. But it's not going to damage anything, the knock sensing will just reduce the power a bit if there is some knock.

I have a 91 and 93 octane tune that I can put on my car. It sounds like I can probably get away with just using the 93 tune if I'm easy on it. I have no idea if my tuner left the low octane table in place or not though.
I'm planning on a road trip so I cannot guarantee I can find 93 everywhere. I'll probably just run the 91 tune for that trip. That seems easier than having a few bottles of octane booster on hand.

Nothing to be to concerned about as the Knock sensors will pull necessary timing to protect the engine and performance will be reduced.
I offer tunes for 93,91 and even 87 if needed Like the guys said if you normally run 93 octane and you are tuned for 93 octane but can only get 91 octane just don't drive it like you stole it and all will be fine. We carry Torco Accelerator Race gas concnetrate, a few ounces will bump the octane right back up where you need it. Ted.
