Since they come from Canada, it's a tuff question to answer. When the last generation of Camaro's were built, it was about two weeks from build to dealer. All I can say is you are going to see a ton of threads asking where the cars are after they are built.

BTW, the process is not complicated for me because I do this every week. If you were sitting next to me, you would see how easy it really is. The biggest problem I see here is that everyone is relying on salespeople for info when they really are not part of the ordering process. Their managers are the one's who do it.

This is why I started this thread. I think it will be easier to understand if you follow it from the start.

Sorry for all the questions but my dealer was only initially allocated 1 car through Q3. I'm just trying to find out how many times per month my dealer might find out they get their 1 allocation.
The final allocation report has info for the next 4 weeks.

I think you're spot on and I for one truly appreciate your posts.
It does seem extremely simple and I feel that I fully understand now.
This is the first time someone has actually explained it in this level of detail.

THANKS AGAIN!!!

Well, it's about 830 AM here in the cold northeast. I think it said 13 degrees on my car's outside temperature display. I have my coffee and egg whites on a wrap and I'm ready to go this morning.

After being on this forum for a while, it's pretty exciting watching our first 2010 Camaro go thru the "birthing" process. So here we go for this morning.

Open up Global Connect and click on the "My Placed" link. This will show us all of the orders that ran thru the Pass One process last week. This is the last day for me to make any changes to those orders. If I don't make the necessary changes, I could easily end up with an assortment of generic orders. However, that rarely happens because even if I am on vacation, I either have someone else do it for me or I have internet access and can do it remotely.

But with the Camaro, I have never seen such hype over the order process and I'd better get this one right. I don't want to deal with some crazed Camaro nut who didn't get the proper equipment. I wouldn't do it wrong because of pride so the customer has very little to worry about anyway.

SInce I ran the Pass One with this particular order, I know the car is buildable within constraints so I really don't have to do anything with it except double and triple check.

Next step is to hand the order to the salesperson to double check my work and then I will check it again after he is done with it. At this point, we have no reason to call the customer but if she calls, we will give her the up to date info as we have it (she's not a member of this forum so I'm off the hook).

The status has now moved to a 2000 event code which means "Accepted by GM". My job is done today for this order and I will watch it patiently and update here as to it's status from day to day.

As of today, this order is now considered "Placed" and will appear in the "In System" tab tomorrow. I should get a TPW next Wednesday. It should be the week of 3/23/09.

I will try to post up a screen shot of the order as it sits so you know what to look for.

I applaud your efforts here. Following this order through should quell some of the distrust/discontent of some people who seem to think things do/should change almost daily. I know we covered this last week, but FWIW, I still don't have a TPW on my OrderWORKBENCH even though I've been sitting at event code 3400 for about two weeks. Just throwing it out there as an example for people who see their event codes change and automatically expect delivery in a couple weeks...

So I hand the order to the salesperson to check and he notices an interior discrepancy. Originally the customer wanted all black leather. But then changed to Inferno orange leather. So I changed the order and now the event code shows 2051 (order changed) in the event history yet on the Order Workbench sheet it still shows 2000.

This is why all the hullabaloo over what code your order is at is somewhat inaccurate. All that really matters is when it gets placed after the Pass One.

Confused yet?

The first guy is absolutely lying- he will NOT have all his cars by April. He'll have maybe the first 2 or 3 of his 15 by then-- that's it. The second guy is much closer to the truth but he will have cars (after his 7) in Nov/Dec most likely.

Just a suggestion... but I think it might be easier to keep editing the OP, instead of posting a new one each time there is new info. You could just put the date, and whatever happened that day. I think this will make it much easier to see the timeline, instead of everyone having to wade through the entire thread and possibly missing something.

BTW thanks for doing this

That's why you should read thru the whole thread to get a complete understanding of the process.

There are no shortcuts in this class.

Just be lucky I'm not giving out homework!

Thank you RPO! This was an excellent idea and is a fabulous "helping hand" that you are providing to the Camaro5 community.

You are a gentleman (or lady?) and a scholar (OK, I don't really know that to be true but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt!!!)

THANK YOU!!!

New Screen shot from today.

Notice the tabs at the top and how the event codes are classified by range.

When I run this same report tomorrow, this order should be in the "In System" tab.

Just got this info from my DSM.. You can say you saw it here first!!

Enjoy:

"AND here's another major event...05/06/09 - a national Camaro Reveal Event! WOW! We have all been waiting for this vehicle...lots of excitement....lots of enthusiasm....Would LOVE for all of my dealers to participate in this event...and as details evolve, I will share with you.

By 05/06/09...EVERY Chevrolet dealer will have a minimum of ONE Camaro available for the reveal - so all dealers can participate. And we have Camaro Car Covers available - so be sure to order one of those from the NY ADI.....either red or gray...from what I hear nationally - supply is limited so don't be left out in the cold. Let's make the Camaro reveal one of the biggest events Chevrolet has seen in a long time.....Bring in your local media....local car enthusiasts clubs...have an unveiling on the web.....create an event- make it exciting and fun."

Well, it's the usual Wednesday morning routine. Got my DD coffee (medium, light, no sugar with half and half) and whole wheat bagel with cream cheese (not toasted, thank you) and it's off to GM Global Connect. As promised, here's the screen shot of our beloved Inferno Orange 2SS.

Even though you don't see it, the status has changed to 2500. The dealer doesn't change the status. That is performed by the system automatically. The 2500 event code is known as "preferenced" and it is now in the "In SYstem" tab. There is no TPW at this time although we know it will probably be the week of 3/23.

Questions from the class?

Thanks for this info RPO! I have already sent my dealer an email to keep check on them

Let me ask this....if they receive an allocation this week, HOW do they find out? Do they just look in the system? Get a phone call? How does that work?

I know originally they were allocated 3, but their screen shows a total of 5. Should that low # worry me at all? I am reading these thread and seeing people's orders getting pulled all over the place.....and losing patience
