Subwoofer Help

For Christmas I received a 2011 Camaro LT with the RS package. I also received the optional Boston Acoustics sound system that sounds unbelievable. I listen to the treble and mid range at 10 and the bass at 12 whenever I listen to hip hop or rap on my iPod. The bass speakers on the side sound great, but the speakers in the back sound a little distorted. My question is whether to upgrade the speakers, upgrade the amp, just add a sub woofer, or upgrade the whole system? I know nothing about audio or electrical so if I do upgrade could someone recommend a good sub woofer(s?) with good amp for around $500? Thanks.

If you already believe that the stock BA speakers sound good, then just add a sub and amp. Take a look at this package from SubThump.

Would this be a good idea or should I just replace the amp altogether?

Crap. You'll actually need that harness as well if you get a package similar to the one that I linked to earlier.

You could replace the stock amp for a 5-channel amp, and you'd be pushing more power to the already-underpowered speakers.

EDIT: I just realized that SubThump has discontinued their 5 channel amp package

Steve at SubThump recommends getting the amp/sub package and getting a seperate 4-channel amp for the rest of the speaker system.

That, I would have no experience with. But several members here have gotten that sub and are pretty happy.

Of course, those are just options and you can build your system using those ideas. But I'd still recommend you just add an amp and sub.

I purchase the subthump front firing box and installed two 10" JL WO3 subs with a JX500 mono amp to push them. Sound great and the box fits perfect.

I custom did mine..

Alpine 10" E3's with a Kenwood 600x2 amp (hidden on the back of the box)

I used a truck box..plenty of bass for me.

The battery is in the truck so the power leads are easy.. You can tap off the factory amp for a turn on and such. I tapped off the factory speakers into the high-inputs for the amp.. works great

my radio settings are

Treble - 4
Mid - 4
bass - -4
