There'd be not as much reason to celebrate if the car was run on DOT-legal slicks. I say "as much" because you aren't going to be driving on wet roads with those tires nor will they last nearly as long. GM's been saying this is a car for everyday driving, so for them to make that contradiction (at least in my head) would take a little credit away from the facts. I would still like to know more details

See... All those people who complain ZL1, or CAMARO in general, can't before because of the weight I think just ate a little crow. Those people choose to ignor the achievement made by the aftermarket and their development cars, though, those aren't OEM like ZL1 is. ZL1 shows that while weight is certainly a factor, it's not impossible to entirely overcome. Sure, lighter cars will handle better, but those are closer to race cars than ZL1 is. So far, we haven't heard they've cut any amenities making this any less of a car one could enjoy every day. If you want a car you can enjoy, safely, everyday, that's going to cost in many ways, weight being one of them. Sure, ZL1 could go even faster with less weight, but that's just not the way it is now, so there's not much sense in crying over it for this generation. I'm certainly happy and proud to see GM invest so much for us

Shoud be around $50k, probably 49k to 52k base. Anything more than that, and it's CTS-V coupe territory (starts at 62k), and who in their sane mind would pick a Camaro over V I have no idea. Nurburgring lap is all good and stuff, but it's not a factor in pricing at all as it doesn't increase the actual value of the car. If the same car ran the Ring at 7:11 somehow, you'd think it would be justifiable to price the car at 80k? No. The car is what the car is. A tuned Camaro with bigger engine, that's all. No chance in the world it's worth more than CTS-V.

I was considering V until now, but if ZL1 turns out to cost around 50k, I'd consider losing
- style
- luxury
- prestige
- interior amenities (recaros, nav etc)

for about 12k savings (assuming there won't be crazy 10k "market adjustments" when it actually hits the lots)

If the price difference is less than 10k, it's simply not worth it. Same power (who really cares about extra 20hp in a 550hp car), same handling (in everyday life you won't use even 5% of its abilities, so any 5-10% difference in Ring time is meaningless), just A LOT less value for your money.

Don't hold your breath. Scott already said it won't start in the high forties and the base model will be pretty optioned out already. A GT500 with the svt pack is like $53k. Expect it to be no lower than that.

Then, as if that isn't insult enough, we have to pay any dollar exchange value difference applicable at the time, so even 52 US is potentially 61,000 here before tax.
After tax in B.C. I would be paying another7,320.00, for a total of 68,320.

..

This is also a concern of mine. I know, I know, GM Canada and GM everywhere else are 2 separate entities, but it is just so damn STUPID that I will be paying probably at least $8000 more for a car MADE IN CANADA just because I live in Canada.

Scott, I know you don't work for GM Canada, but when you visit Oshawa the next time, couldn't you slap a little sense into some people in the office there?

My other alternative is to try and get an American friend to buy one, hold it for 6 months and then I buy it off of him 'used' and go through the whole stupid border crossing thing.

Our dollar has met or exceeded the American greenback for quite a long time. Our economy is one of the strongest on the PLANET, and I am still treated as a second class citizen by GM Canada!

/Rant off

ok fbodfather...I understand what you are getting at...Other than I still feel people will look at the Shelby as the ZL1's competition until it is known whether 500's are beaten on the strip as well.

I must have missed the earlier notices on expecting higher prices. I was always under the idea that it would be competitive to the GT500 pricing, not competitive and then plus the extras equals higher than competitive.

This does make me sad however, I really wanted a ZL1. I may end up with a Shelby I guess as a more affordable competitor.

Fast Forward to the 7:00 mark in the video and watch it climb to 172mph and 6100rpms.
So they definitely have it geared correctly for it's hp peak and redline.

Just thinkin' back here.
My first car, a brand new 1983 Z28 with the then new BW 5spd. did 0-60 in 9.5 seconds.
And you guys are complaining about this car? LOL.
Heck I'm gonna by a Camaro just because it doesn't squeak and rattle like my 4 3rd gens did. 0-60 in less than 4 seconds is just gravy IMO.

Thanks for the heads-up MAC

I would agree with the target, but they also want to capture new people, as he put it in other posts today. Unfortunately, that may leave a lot of us out, but it's for the good of CAMARO, and it's only for that reason I'm not terribly pizzed. Even if it gets to $60K (God - don't let it...), I still think it's an excellent performance value.

No problem

So if this is aimed at the hardcore enthusiasts, we need something to fill the gap

I say fill every gap with a CAMARO

I do have a problem with my guess, though... I don't think enthusiast is completely what I mean. I don't know... It'll do for now. I just hope GM remembers it's a CAMARO, not a Berbarian or something like that.
