Talking The ZL1 Joins The Dark Side: ZL1 Carbon

The ZL1 Joins The Dark Side: ZL1 Carbon

Added Nov 14, 2011, Under: Camaro

Everyone knew is was only a matter of time before the Camaro ZL1 embraced it’s inner villain and at SEMA 2011 we were introduced to the mean and menacing ZL1 Carbon. The team at GM took a standard ZL1, including it’s 6.2L LSA cranking out a monsterous 580 hp and 556 lb/ft of torque and it’s mind blowing Magnetic Ride Control system, and made it’s appearance match it’s extreme performance capabilities.

What separates this Ashen Gray ZL1 from it’s more conservative brothren is a variety of carbon fiber goodies including an exposed-weave carbon fiber “Mohawk” hood insert, a carbon fiber rear spoiler with stainless-steel wicker bill, and carbon fiber inserts on the interior door and instrument panel. A set of lightweight 20″ Satin Black wheels with machined faces and Brembo brakes complete the exterior transformation. Inside things are equally as sinister with a Jet Black leather interior with suede microfiber seat inserts that are set off by Torch Red stitching, a suede-trimmed flat-bottom steering wheel, short-throw shifter topped with a carbon fiber-trimmed shift knob, and ZL1 pedals.

the only thing that's really different is the extra little bit of carbon fiber on the interior and the spoiler. it does look really good though

oh yeah....and the rims.

It looks like AGM still has blue flakes like CGM.

You know I really like this color? ...I just worry there's not enough contrast between the gray/black aero pieces and the gray paint...what do you think?

This color is amazing. I'm so glad I picked it. I originally was going to get black on black but a friend convinced me to pick AGM. I'm glad he did.

Thats what it looks like to me too, I am glad its still close to CGM. I thought it was supposed to be more gold flake or something.

Thanks for the up close pix of the paint!! I feel much better about my color choice now.

This color makes the ZL1 look like a weapon. I can tell already that I like it a bit better than CGM, it looks deeper and richer.

I'm still not 100% sold on the exposed carbon fiber insert with this color, even though it's probably what I'll end up ordering. I just think think since I'm definitely going with the black 10 spoke wheels, the black insert would match better and give a more mean, all business look. The exposed insert is more flashy but blends in with the color a bit. Either way, you really can't lose.

Thanks for the awesome pics Apex!

That's exactly how I feel about it. I ended up going with the the black insert and the black stripe. Up close, the exposed cf would look awesome but, like you said, it would blend in I think.

We've seen plenty of CGM with black accents... Doesn't show a lot of contrast but definitely makes it look meaner...

Hopefully we can get it on the 2012's. Pretty sure it's on constraint right now.

I think you're right... I'm just glad to see some blue in there...

Exposed CF all the way for me... This has always looked good on CGM... and it looks great on this Carbon concept too...

I think it looks great too but from reading all the posts it seems so many are getting the exposed cf that the black insert might be a little more rare. I think the black will look good and I'm stickin with it.

I think they should make the 1 in the emblems have a carbon fiber print instead of the red enamel.
