Swapping the 79 for a 69

So when I was 14, my dad and mom bought me my first car...

This rust bucket of a '79 Camaro, but it was all original, numbers matching Z28 that they paid $2k for. I drove it all through high school and then my first year of college, decided it wasn't practical, and we garaged it.

While it was garaged and I was away at college, my dad put a Cam, torque converter, step headers, heads, an intake, holly carb, to another 350smb and dropped it in there to give it some pep. (it runs in the mid 13's now vs high 14's before). The car still has working AC and power windows btw..

I am out of college a few years now and I recently purchased a '11 2SS/RS and that, in all honesty, has taken 100% of my attention.

My dad recently purchased a 63 Nova Pro Street Car because he "missed" his first car from HS.

SO HERE'S THE DILEMMA!

We've come accross a 1969 SUPER Clean Camaro with a V6 for a REALLY...Really... good price... (FYI: We already have a 396 BBK sitting in my dad's garage..so you can probably guess what we want to do )

BUT- We would be getting rid of the '79 in the process and I'd be ponying up the money for the 69, since it would be mine.

Maybe it seems like a no brainer, but, the 79 was my first car, and it started my love for my camaros...

I guess my question is... is it worth it?! Would you give up your first, Camaro for a 69 Camaro?! (Probably every Camaro enthusiasts dream car)

Why do you have to get rid of the '79?

HELL YES.

Not a fan of '79 personally. I know you have a personal attachment to it, but the '69 is the most pristine of all the camaros imo.

I'd do it in a heartbeat if I had the opportunity.

For what your 79 is worth, keep it and get the 69. Or do you need the space?

Doesn't that mean you have 4 spots and the 2011 can sit outside?

You have had the 79 a long time and it probably does not get driven very much, time to let it go, maybe to another first time Camaro owner.

Grab the 69 before someone else does.

I am a big fan of the first gens and have a '67 now, but...
I guess you realize how not good they actually are to drive today? Unless you update everything from the steering to the seats, they just really are primitive to actually drive.
And from a resell point of view, an original six car will never pull a lot of money.

The guy just called and told me he took a higher offer, cash, while he was waiting for my decision and putting the money together.

Freaking Sucks.

Thanks for the input Camaro5. You guys are the best.

Well, the buyer may not come up with the cash, lots of folks can talk the talk, but can't walk the walk.

if it does get sold, another one will come along, be patient, let it come to you.

This will give you plenty of time to find the 79 a good home.

I know how you feel about your 79. My first was a 78 which i loved. It got a lot of attention back in the day.

when you snooze you lose.
if the 79 means so much to you,i would suggest renting a storage space to put it in.i know several guys that do this.if you get rid of the 79,you will probably regret it later.

Bought an 11 vert this year...
Wife said to keep the 91 Z/28 vert... if we sell it, I ll regret it..her words, not mine!!! Also picked up a 79 Z last summer, was to restore w/ 16 yr old son.
He changed interest to music, so I m in the same boat...donna have to sell the 79, but...do I really need it?
Scott..72X30 foot barn, w/ 12X 40 lean~to addition...I have the space!

While you didn't get a chance on the '69 cause it was sold out from under you, I think you should be glad.

You have a numbers matching z28, and on top of that it was your first car and first camaro at that. 10 years from now I could see a restored '79 z28 going for more than a '69 I6. That's just my judgement though.

If I were you I would also have been tempted by the '69, but your '79 z28 is really the way to go.
