Setting 5

Been reading a lot on the various settings with mrc and ptm. My question is about the race setting #5. It states stability control is off but is it fully off ? I guess I'm wondering if the car will still save you on setting #5?

Until I get used to the car at my events, I'd like the car to intervene when needed but I also want the most aggressive suspension setting as well.

I don't want to but in a sport setting at the track, but then again, I don't want every single nanny off either while learning

I don't know for certain, but I'm pretty sure #5 is no nannies.

I know launch control is used in that setting only...

I guess, I want the most aggressive suspension setting but still have some sort of help if I can't regain control. I really hope that something is still on with the race suspension setting

I thought there was "off" setting where there were no nannies, in addition to the other five, but I'd have to look into that...

I agree also. No Nannies. And, is there 5 settings on both auto and manual?

One of the reviews stated there were technically 6 settings if you count all the nannies being off... Hmmm

I think this answers it if car n driver is right...

Aiding the quest for all-around perform*ance is the latest version of GM’s Perform*ance Traction Management (PTM), which features a wet mode for foul weather. The other settings, in order of decreasing intervention and increasingly aggressive suspension and steering settings, are: dry, sport 1, sport 2, and race. Race mode is primarily a final catch fence; it allows you to spin the tires and slide the car a bit but reels it in before you pull a full 360. Should you want to drift around a corner or fumigate your neighborhood with tire smoke, you can also turn off the system completely.

afaik...Setting 5 is "Track Mode"...it stiffens the suspension, lays off the traction control as much as possible while still remaining on (since Stability control is off in Mode 4)...they call this traction control mode: "track" as well.

It also engages the Launch Control, and No-lift shift features if I read things right.

PTM has to be engaged separately from the normal MR & stabilitrac systems. So...technically, I guess there are 10 suspension modes...if you include all "off"...

ST On
ST - Traction off
ST- All Off

MR Tour
MR Sport

PTM 1
PTM 2
PTM 3
PTM 4
PTM 5

Now I'm confused.. So even though I would have ptm set at 5 I have to still do something else to engage track mode?

I am hoping that it has a mode similar to my Z06 "Competitive Mode".
That allowed me to steer with the throttle and spin the tires but still save me from losing it.

I called the two different things traction control and Active Handling. Traction control was to keep the rear tires from spinning and would shut down the power to the rear wheels when on (weird when you got air and it got quiet instead of revving).

Active handling would apply the correct braking to straighten you out when you started to rotate.

I went from all on when I started, to competitive mode as my skill level improved to all off.

I will skip all on at track days as long at there is a mode like the competitive mode. When I get comfortable with the car, I'll shut that off at track days too.

That is incorrect. PTM modes 2-5 all have launch control same as PTM on ZR1. However, mode 5 has a special launch control for Prepped drag strips.

Yes, LC is available in modes 2-5. But apparently, mode 5 is specifically tuned for prepped drag strips.

Where did you read that? I wish a GM employee (Scott or Mike) could chime in here and clarify...

Thank you post posting that Link!! Excellent. It replaces the manual that was just out a month ago! The previous one did not have ZL1 info in it. It's a wealth of info!
