Welcome to the site!

My '91 did this when I got it as well.

Fuel filter
ignition control module
clean distributor contacts inside, replace if corroded too badly
clean rotor tip, replace if corroded too badly
replace the spark plugs
inspect plug wires for any melting/tears
dilectic grease in the ends of the plug wires where they contact the plugs and distributor cap
check your timing
check your vacuum lines

You can find a lot of good info on thirdgen.org Again, welcome!

It's throttle body injection correct?

If yes, the fuel pump may be going bad or have a loose connection. Or, you may have an injector going bad.

It's multi port injection. But I really don't know how the V6 is set up.

If it has a traditional air cleaner on top with the wing nut, take it off. If there is a carb there it should have two bulb looking things inside it. That will be the throttle body injection and those bulbs are your injectors. If this is the case and the engine starts then the injectors are doing their job but the fuel pump can't get enough fuel to them.
