Well you don't *need* to, but you have a weak sensor. I'd recommend changing it.

Installed my Cold Air Inductions intake Friday night. Took for a spin yesterday as the salt was gone off the roads and it was not snowing or raining. Thought it drove amazing and much quicker than before. Took my sensor out to check this morning and noticed I have a "weak" sensor with just code R. Is it possible that I did receive a "strong" sensor even though the code is a single letter R? Reason behind my question is the car feels much stronger in 1,2,3 gear pulls and the throttle response is much quicker than with my stock intake. Let me know what you guys think and thank you.

I believe GM Parts House has good deals on them. Check the market place section.

If you have a single letter, then its a weak sensor. Sorry, but just think of how much better your cars going to feel after putting in a strong sensor.

I kind of figured just that. That was my thought too, my wife already thinks the car is insane, can't imagine what it will be like with the new MAF. I am going to order one this week. Thank you for your quick response and helpful information.

Also, one more question. Will I or will I not need a tune for the new MAF sensor? I have read through the forum and seen some say you do and some say you do not need a tune. I will be purchasing the ACDelco stock OEM sensor from Apex.

Actually if all you have is just CAI then you won't notice it. However if later down the road you add the scoop and a Vmax tb the difference between the two will be night and day.

The reason is the increased air flow from just a cai is within the capabilities of the weak sensor albeit just barely. The scoop adds just enough air flow to push it outside of the weak sensors capabilities making it go bonkers.

If you are stock or only have a cai then you're not losing anything. If you add a intake and the scoop or any other mods then you will start to lose some power.

Just curious, but does the strong/weak MAF affect the V6, too?

That's interesting...I wonder if that's what was going on with my V6 back then. I had quite a few mods (shorties, cai, exhaust, Vmax) and once in a while, I would get a hesitation when getting on the throttle. I remember getting ready to pass someone on the freeway one time and I gave it gas and the car didn't respond right away. I don't think I started noticing this until after the Vmax TB. At the time, I didn't know about the MAF issue, but thinking back, it seems like this is what I was experiencing.

I have that problem too on the hesitation. A few times I have gunned it and the rpm would go down slightly be4 it jumped up. I have a strong sensor

just got a code reader to find out why my check engine light came on long after I added my K&N cai. reader says that I'm running too lean. Could my MAF be an issue?

i have a cai Inc, with scoop, and weak sensor. swapped out for strong one and theres no difference. i heard someone say in these cars, doing 75 km/h in second and romp on it they should spin. (tc off of course). my car wont do it before or after strong maf. maybe the 22's being 295 wide has soemthing to do with it. still im pretty dissapointed that the only way to smoke the tires in a 426 hp car is by dropping the clutch:( which i refuse to do

I'm not sure I buy into this strong/weak MAF sensor. Did someone collect any data on these such as electrical signals in and out of sensor, butt dyno, or real dyno results?
