Ruby's garage build thread

Well it was dark when I got home so actual pics will have to wait until morning, but they started on building our garage today. Woooo Hoooo! Until then, Here are a couple of before pocs. One of our Camaros sitting where the garage will be and a couple of them under the current carport which will be home to the Yukon & Crossfire.

Okay here are pics from day 1. Not much progress but it is started. And..........caution tape warns construction guys, no short cuts through the carport! Got to protect those babies. More was done today but again there will be a delay in pics since it was dark-thirty when I got home.

Aren't building projects FUN?!?! I keep telling myself that!

It will certainly be a nice home for that pair!!

One bit of advice. Make sure you build the site up high enough.
My Grandpa told me once to "get your site to grade..........then add another foot of fill."
I think too many times, people don't pay attention to this, and end up with issues that could have been avoided.

You may want to lurk around on.....

Going to C5Fest, but can't make the Spring Fling Thing. But, thanks for the invites you've been sending. But, I am hoping to make the MIR Super Chevy Day in April.

Well, no progress today, it rained all day, very hard rain, and it is still raining. Here is a pic of yesterday's progress taken just after dawn this morning & just before the rain started.

Thanks. Yeah, I think our guy is building up the site pretty well. We were surprised how high he is building it up.

Are you going to have to drive through the carport to get to garage? It is hard to tell where you property lines are.

Yeah, we will have to play musical cars sometimes but then we already do that now so there is not really going to be a difference in that. You can drive around the side of the fence but that is messing up the grass & we will probably stop doing that after the garage is finished. Our son will be off to the military by then too so we won't have the POS Neon in the driveway just the Crossfire & Yukon.

That is going to be really sharp. Maybe a big Camaro flag on the wall inside!

What type of gravel is in your driveway? I can get white rock cheap, but it doesn't pack very well.

It is just medium sized limestone gravel. Originally we put some crusher run gravel then some larger size in the back & smaller from the carport foward. But the builders had to bring in 2 big dump truck loads back there to level it up. And Now we have a concrete slab!

Looking Good.......Keep it wet and let it dry slowly..It will help with any cracking.

He is spot on Ruby. You can run a sprinkler on it and help your concrete in the long run.

God has been taking care of that for us! It rained a lot the next day & the second day. Chance of rain again the next 2 days. How long does it need to be kept wet?

Ruby it is starting to take shape. Looks like they messed up the grass going around the fence pretty good. You might want to think about having them level it out when they are done and put some gravel done so you don't have to go through the carport to get in and out of garage. Actually I would have already put some walls around carport and door on the front and have 2 garages.
