good exhaust shop

NEC5'ers, can you guys recommend a good exhaust shop? Tax returns' in and I'm deciding between MRT and Dynomax. Want to have it welded on. I'm on the South Shore in MA. Who have you used?

Thanks; I had Lou's do my GMC, I wasn't to pleased. They're like 2 min. from my house, the only good thing. So damn limited around us for exhaust places :(

I had Lous do a whole exhaust on my V8 S10 and they did a very good job. I was very pleased with their work. I wouldn't hesitate taking my camaro there.

Can't say I've seen anything good from Lou's. Depending on the exhaust system I would hesitate fully welding them. A good system should fit tight with no leaks and maybe a few tack welds so it doesn't move/rotate.

Some people try to sace money doing the cheaper exhaust but the labor puts them right into the market of a good quality exhaust.

I also like the Lou's in North Reading and South Boston. But I think they expanded a little too quick and some of the other francises might not stack up.

Same here. Most Meineke's have the same machines as any of Lou's shops and they usually have longer tenured employees than Lou's so you'll get a better job at a cheaper price.

when the old man ran the original Lou's it was a quality shop, now it's just a name and the quality is not there at all, most of the time

I used Lou's for my axle backs and also replaced the "H" pipe with and "X" pipe. I had visited the Meineke in town and the manager started giving me some story about "non" OEM exhausts being illegal/unable to pass inspection and even printed off a copy of the bylaw on it. So being a corporate franchise they wouldn't break the law. But did offer me the option of purchasing a set of Cat back pipes then installing my new mufflers on them and at time of inspection for a nominal fee swapping the setups back and forth to pass inspections. Ya right

I'd say get the MRT and DIY if you can. It's not that hard and you can put the rest of your $$$ towards something else.

I think Lou's only charged be $200.00ish to swap my exhausts weld on the new ones and install their "X" pipe.

I know, thought about it, but read of MRTs "twisting around" especially on the left, if clamps aren't tightened like crazy. That's why I was looking to weld. Damn this mod addiction.....

So just make sure they're tight.

It's really not that bad plus you'll feel better knowing you worked on your own car.

Most people are ok with Lou's because they don't really know what to look for. I'd say 80% of the work I've seen from them is bad from stuff not lined up right to crap welding.
But, you get what you pay for.

For bolt-on exhaust just make sure you use the correct clamps ( no u-bolt's) and tack weld them to keep from twisting.

I disagree, look at the work they did for me, $375 for a header back system on my V8 S10:

Is it a desirable upgrade to go with the SS exhaust on non-SS models? I had a super clean, low mileage takeoff when I put Solos on my SS and I threw it on Craigslist practically as scrap metal and couldn't get a bite. It's still taking up space at work.

To me it looks like a $400 exhaust job. I could pick it apart alot. Fine for a S-10 but that definitely would not fly on my 2011 Camaro.

As said, you get what you pay for and most people are not picky. If the tips are straight they are happy.
