Reprogramming used keyfob

I bought a used keyfob off eBay and it won't program. Are the keyfobs only programmable once? If not does anyone know how to reprogram a keyfob to a different camaro.

I don't think you can "reprogram" them. But I honestly don't know, don't think anyone's ever asked that before.

Obviously if it were that simple, car thieves would be in heaven.........But yes it can be done. A certified Chevrolet dealership has the required FOB reprograming scanning tool. A bonded Locksmith who does automotive rekeying may also have one..............I'd try your dealer 1st.

The short answer is no. Once that unit is programed to a specific vehicle.... that is it. The only only exception is if that individual is selling a new unit (uncut blade) in a sealed GM bag. In fact, some eBay sellers would insert a blank blade in to a "used" unit. You go to a locksmith... he lazer cuts your unit... you insert it (after inserting the original) and nothing happens. This actually happened to me. Both the dealer and the locksmith first asked me the most common question: Where did you get the key.... followed by: was it sealed in the original GM bag.

FML my key fob blew apart I guess I'll have to see if the dealer will cover it under warranty or try to reprogram it with their equipment.

Well i bought another key from the dealer and had them program it. it wasnt worth buying a used key and trying to get the blank and having it laser cut. I ask the parts guy and he said you cant even buy a blank.

I just took the new keyfob apart an put my cut key into it. Problem is it won't reprogram the standard way because it's programmed to a different car.

If that works, that's fantastic... I had often wondered about this... It used to take ~30 minutes doing it the manual way in my 04 GTO...

It does indeed work....on NEW keyfobs.

It doesn't work on used fobs already programmed.

Let us know how things go for you with your dealer Kyle. Hopefully it's a quick stop and you can get back to enjoying your vehicle.
