The reliability of the engine is very questionable. I've heard countless stories of owners pulling the engines and installing other engines, many times LS engines, in their place. Most have said they just couldn't put up with the maintenance and horrible reliability anymore, especially with the turbo versions. |

I know it was a mustang!

I have an RX-8 stock and have done the 0-60 in mid 6's, with a 1/4 of 14.1 at 99.5. It's like driving an F-1 with 15,000+ rpm compared to NASCAR 9,000. Not fast off the line, but really quick in the twistys.

But yes, the increased maintenance requirements make it more likely that people will create problems for themselves due to neglected ownership duties. We can agree on that much. |

in my expirience with the RX-8 I found the car to be a great driving car, if you don't love aggressive driving you won't love the car. When I looked at the RX-8 It made me appriciate cars like the STi that much more. If I were too look for a liveable Japanese driving car to compete with the camaro V6 I'd look for an 06-07 STi

A tick over 13.0 sec. and you're through the quarter-mile. It's a rush, of course, but not overly dramatic. Try the same thing with this pair's predecessors of 1970 or so and you'll find yourself in a bit of a wrestling match. Ain't progress wonderful? Maybe yes, and maybe sometimes it's fun to wrestle."

14.1 @ 99 mph in a stock RX-8? I find that hard to believe. I've raced quite a few RX-8s and they were pretty slow (definately not capable of running 14.1s). |

Well Motortrend got 14.49 @ 95 mph in the RX-8, so I guess on a very good day with excellent driving someone could pull 14.1 @ 99 mph.
But my experience with RX-8's is that they are very weak. They start off pretty fast (0-40mph or so), but after that they just fall flat on their face. I guess I'm just used to much faster cars. |

My experience with them is they are fairly quick up to about 40mph, but after that they really slow down. Especially when racing from a roll, they have very slow acceleration when you mash the gas at higher speeds (like crusing 60mph on the highway and you mash the gas). I know they handle very well in the twisties. But that's not what I'm talking about. |

Except dollar for dollar the Camaro would beat the living snot out of a rx8. It creams it in the 1/4 and 0-60 and isnt far behind in the handling aspects for a car weighing close to 4000lbs. Of course Im talking about the ss though...who really races a 6 cylinder Camaro? Besides isnt a maxed out rx8 about 30k anyways?
