Camaro Disciples are meeting.....

......with select members of "Team Camaro" - -

We got a LOT of GREAT feedback last evening of YOUR thoughts-- brought to us by "The 12 Disciples of which there are 15" For those of you on this site, "Janet" has been collecting your thoughts - and she brought every item you brought to her...... what YOU like and dislike on the current Camaro - and what YOU would like in future years. Interestingly - many diametrically opposed opinions!

(.....Navigation is but one of MANY differences they've made -- )

Here are some pictures of them "Lapping" at "a certain track..."........

(....and no-- by the time you get here, they will be gone.....)

More (and better quality) pictures the beginning of next week...

good job on the nav/head unit. it was highly needed to be on par with other manufacturers these days. and so happy to hear you guys collecting and looking at what us enthusiasts want. thank you for that and the new in dash monitors look awesome. can't wait to see what other things make it!

I always wondered why GM's offering in the segment was the only one without an in dash navigation system (even Hyundai has one). Anyone know?

FBodfather... This is TRUE Quality Improvement at it's finest! Thanks for the feedback and our eternal thanks to "The Disciples" for representing the common Camaro owners. A small group of us Gen5 owners met this morning for breakfast and the thing that we all stated in harmony was how fun and awesome this car is to drive. We are addicted and can't drive them enough. It is no wonder one gets permagrin because when you drive one of these fine Camaro's you lose track of time and don't have a care in the world. Simply a fun driving experience.

Thanks to all the disciples and to Janet! (which is my wife's name as well!).

If she really truely brought all the wishes and suggestions that was left on the thread she started, I think it is going to take you guys about a week to go through all of them lol.

as we developed the 5th gen - we talked to thousands of people - "intenders" -- drivers of Mustangs and other competing 'sport coupes' -- our Camaro and Firebird enthusiasts - and also those who drive Camaros and Firebirds but aren't 'enthusiasts'

Initially, the 'ask' rate was, as I recall - around 35% and when we would mention OnStar Turn-by-turn - the take rate would drop to less than 20%.

Further - it would also mean dropping the CD player - and when that was explained - many felt that we should not offer an in-dash nav - but rather offer a portable unit (such as Garmin)

As we all know, more and more people get acclimated to technology - and the 'take rate' seemed to be rising....and the Disciples felt strongly that with the PDIM available, most would be OK with dropping the CD player in exchange for Navigation as an option.

the LS model will continue with the current radio/CD - the LT/SS/ZL1s will have a touch screen radio - with Nav as an upgrade......

It's always tough to make decisions - you want to please everyone and of course that's just about impossible to do!

This is great, but one question. Will the new camaro (with the mylink touch screen) have a cd player or not? I would like one, but really it is not necessary as long as the PDIM is good. Also will the mylink be adaptable to model years 2010 - 2012? Your passion fuels our passion for this great automobile, and that's what makes the camaro such a fantastic car (almost doesn't do it justice calling it a car though). Thank you all. It's a rarity when a manufacturer listens to their customers and reacts in this manner.

I'd be interested to know what the projections v. Actual numbers are going to be next year. As far as CD player goes, I haven't bought a CD since I got an IPod several years ago. I eventually installed an aux port in my old 01 SS. I think CD players will go the way of the cassette players in no time.

With respect to forcing a choice between CD v. Nav, I'm surprised GM couldn't engineer a solution to incorporate everything into one unit like many aftermarket units do.

I rented a GMC Terrain recently and it had the mylink touch screen in it (no nav), but it did have a cd player. The nav would be nice, especially if Onstar can route directions to it directly like they do in the Tahoe and Escalade.

One more quick question in regards to the current radio cd player. Why is it that most cd's do not display the track title and artist name, all you get is track 1 and so on.

I'd really like to know the answer to this question also. I have my suspicions but would rather know than guess.

Also, @ fbodfather is there any way we could get statistics from these meetings u guys have. Like what's the number one asked for feature, whats the most annoying feature ect stuff like that. Basicly poll results. It would be nice to know what the majority of people think about certain things.

As far as dropping the cd player, I could care less. I can't remember the last time I bought a CD or any optical based media except for video games. Majority of music is also sold digitally.

as I said in an earlier post - only the LS will have a CD player.

You theoretically could put the nav system in a 2010-2012 - but I would not recommend it - a LOT of tearing out and buying a lot of parts -

it is a matter of real-estate. If the space isn't there - no matter how hard we try, we can't change the law of physics.

I don't know.

Ask someone who makes CDs.

If 'the stuff' isn't on there - it won't show up.

Thanks for the "leak", fbodfather!

Very proud to have the disciples sharing our thoughts with the team to better the Camaro name going forward!

I'm only regret the new touch-screen radio *this* much...I can't complain about the little things when getting a car with sooooo much. That said - it seems to have been a good move, definitely serves those who asked for it - and gives the Camaro another +1 versus the competition.

Afaik.

The original mastered CD has to have a file named CD text that has the track information listed. For it to be read, the CD player has to be text enabled.
Not all CDs will have it and not all cd players can read it. I'm not sure if the one in the camaro in txt enabled or not, but if you never see track names it's prob not.

Because you are making CDs of downloaded or ripped music and your software does not burn the information to the CD. If you buy CDs from a record company, they will have the info on the screen.
